When welcoming a messenger to the capital.
Tang Dynasty: Cen Can
The distance from the east home is very long, and the tears are wet and the sleeves are still flowing. ?
I'll meet you immediately, without paper and pen. Please tell my family that I'm safe.
Translation:
Looking at the home of East Chang 'an, it's a long way to go, and it's hard to dry your sleeves with tears.
There is no pen and paper to meet you in a hurry, so I have to ask you to take a message to tell me that your family is safe.

Creative background:
This poem was written on the way to Anxi (now Kuche County, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region) in the eighth year of Tianbao (AD 749). This is Cen Can's first trip to the Western Regions as the secretary of the Gao Xianzhi shogunate. At this time, the poet was 34 years old, and he gained fame and fortune in the first half of his life, which was not satisfactory. In desperation, he went out to work.
Appreciate:
It is human nature to meet an emissary returning to Beijing on the road and ask him to take a message to his family, and not to think about him. But through the poet's expression, it deepened, and the end of the sentence made people feel as if it contained countless sorrows.
In the eighth year of Tianbao (749), Cen Can made his first mission to the Western Regions and served as the secretary of the Gao Xianzhi shogunate. He bid farewell to his wife in Chang 'an and strutted on a long journey.
I don't know how many days I walked, but on my way to the western regions, he suddenly met an old acquaintance. I immediately talked about each other and exchanged cold feelings. Knowing that the other party was going back to Beijing to report on his work, I suddenly thought of asking him to send a letter back to his hometown in Chang 'an. This poem describes the scene.
The first sentence is to write the real scene in front of you. "Hometown" refers to my home in Chang 'an. "Looking east" means pointing out the location of Chang 'an. It has been many days since I left Chang 'an. Looking back, I only feel that the road is long and Xiu Yuan is full of dust.
The second sentence has an exaggerated meaning, emphasizing the passion of remembering loved ones, and here it secretly reveals the slight meaning of bringing home letters. The "dragon bell" here means wet.
"Dragon Bell" and "Farewell to Tears" vividly describe the poet's deep affection for his relatives in Chang 'an. Three or four sentences are completely the breath of a traveler in a hurry. When we meet, we can't write letters without pen and paper. Please send me a safe message to my home!
Cen Can came here with the ambition of "seeking fame only once". At this time, the mood is complicated. On the one hand, he has tenderness and homesickness for the imperial city, on the other hand, he also shows the poet's open and heroic mind.
The advantage of this poem is true, but it is sincere. Poets are good at refining and summarizing the thoughts and words of many people by artistic means, making them typical.
The language of this poem is simple and natural, full of rich frontier life flavor, with both life interest and human touch, fresh and lively, profound aftertaste, sincere and sincere.
