Isn't Oscar an American film award? Why did Slumdog Millionaire win the Academy Award?
The Academy Awards stipulate that a film can only participate in the selection of "Best Foreign Language Film" if all the funds are invested by foreign institutions and Americans don't invest any money. However, if a foreign film has money invested by Americans, then the film can be regarded as an "American film" (as for how much money Americans have invested, it doesn't matter, there is no bottom line, as long as Americans have invested), and they can participate in all the awards of the "Oscar" award.
