Hechuan is named after the confluence of Jialing River, Qujiang River and Fujiang River, and is famous for defending fishing city and changing world history. Located in the northwest of Chongqing, adjacent to Liangjiang New District.
Hechuan has a rich history and culture. Established for more than 2,300 years, it has been the administrative office of states and counties and was once the capital of Pakistan. The famous patriotic industrialist and educator Lu Zuofu was born. Zhou Dunyi, the originator of Neo-Confucianism, was an official in Hefei, and Tao Xingzhi, a people's educator, started a business in Hefei.
Hechuan is located at the junction of hills in central Sichuan and parallel ridges and valleys in eastern Sichuan. There are two kinds of landforms: parallel ridges and valleys and gentle hills. The exposed strata include Permian in Paleozoic, Triassic in Mesozoic, Quaternary in Jurassic and Cenozoic from old to new.
Among them, Jurassic has the widest distribution area, accounting for more than three quarters of Hechuan District. The Jurassic Shaximiao Formation has the largest area, reaching 1664.03 square kilometers, accounting for 70.62% of the total area. Mamenxi, Taihe Town, Hechuan District, also unearthed the largest and most complete dinosaur fossil "Mamenxi Dragon" in the world.
The geological structure belongs to the Neocathaysian structural system, and there are two types of geological structures in the whole territory: Huayingshan compound anticline fold belt in the east and southeast of Chongqing Ping Ling Valley, and most of the rest areas belong to Longnvsi semi-circular structural area in the western Chongqing fold belt.
