GIA Gemological Institute of America was founded by Mr. Robert Shipley on 193 1 with a history of more than 70 years. GIA is not only the first gemological institute in the United States, but also the largest non-profit organization of gemological research and education in the world, including research, education, laboratory and equipment manufacturing companies. GIA ensures the public's trust in gems and jewels by discovering, imparting and applying gemological knowledge. Its own education, research, experiment and equipment development process is almost a growth history of jewelry industry. The main service scope is jewelry appraisal and professional knowledge education research, which has been recognized by the global jewelry industry.

GIA established the famous 4 C diamond value standard (color, clarity, cut and weight) and put forward the international diamond rating standard.

The core of GIA is gemology education, and the main certificate is graduate gemologist (G.G.). The diploma has always been regarded as the most prestigious academic certification in the industry, and those who have won the title of G.G. are regarded as senior professionals in the global jewelry industry.

GIA diploma in gemstone appraisal (G.G.) includes diploma in diamonds and diploma in colored gems.

In American Gemological Institute, anyone who has completed the courses of gemological identification, diamond and colored gems classification by correspondence and passed the written examination can be awarded the title of Gemmologist (G.G.). Students who have met the requirements of the G.G. certificate, studied GIA's diamond and colored gems appraisal courses, or studied in GIA face-to-face for half a year can obtain the G.G. certificate.
