There are three characters in the play:

Pierre Loisel, Mathilde's husband, a government worker;

Jeanne, Mathilde's good friend.

Chinese introduction:

The heroine is the wife of a small civil servant. Once, I accepted an invitation to a party hosted by the minister. Mrs Loisel borrowed a necklace from a lady out of vanity. Later, this necklace was accidentally lost at the dance. In order to compensate her friend for the same necklace, Mrs. Loisel fell into the trap of usury, started a hard life and ruined her youth for ten years. Finally, when she met the lady after paying the debt, the lady told her that the necklace was actually fake.

English Introduction: The story takes place in Paris. One day, Pierre received an invitation to a palace dance. He thought it was very important to him and decided to go to the party with his wife Mathilde. But Mathilde was worried because she had no new clothes and jewels to wear. Her husband spent 400 francs on a new dress, and she also borrowed a diamond necklace from her good friend Jenny. The young couple went to the dance and had a good time here. After the dance, on the way home, Mathilde found that the necklace was no longer around her neck. They rushed back to the palace to look for it. But they couldn't find it; It's gone. The young couple borrowed a lot of money and bought a necklace exactly like Jenny. It cost them 36,000 francs. So they have to work day and night to repay the money they borrowed. After ten years of hard work, they finally paid back all the money, but now Mathilde looks too old to recognize Tina when she meets her. When Jenny heard the story, she told Mathilde that the necklace she borrowed was not a real diamond necklace. It is worthless at all. It's worth 500 francs at most.
