What are the advantages of taking opal?
What is opal? Cat's eye is also called oriental cat's eye, cat's eye, cat's eye and cat essence. Opal is a rare and precious variety in jewelry, belonging to the gold emerald mineral. Opal is a symbol of love, friendship, blessing and hope.

In ancient times, opal was called lion-negative.

There is a history about the title of "lion negative": in Yuan Dynasty, Chinese people thought that opal was related to cats, but they could not understand the "cat's eye effect" scientifically, but thought that opal was related to cats being buried in the mountains after death. In this regard, Yi Shizhen's Tian Zang Jing in the Yuan Dynasty recorded in detail that if a cat buried in a deep mountain becomes two cat eyes, if swallowed, it will produce magical power, and a cat like a lion will fly away with the cat eyes in its mouth. So the "cat's eye" here is also called "lion's negative".

The origin of the name opal

So what is the "cat's eye effect"? Cat's eye effect is an optical phenomenon. It is produced because there are a large number of fine, dense and parallel filiform or tubular rutile mineral inclusions in emerald minerals. The refractive index of rutile is 2.60 ~ 2.90, which is quite different from that of emerald. When opal is processed into an arc-shaped gem, these dense vertical and parallel inclusions with strong reflectivity can reflect the incident light intensively, and a light band similar to the "pupil eye" of cat's eye appears, which vertically contains the extension direction of inclusions and is parallel to the extension direction of the arc surface of the gem, which is what we call "cat's eye".

The more opaque the emerald is, the denser the rutile filamentous inclusions are, and the more obvious the "cat's eye effect" is. When the spotlight flashlight is used to illuminate the cat's eye gemstone, at a certain angle, the cat's eye gemstone appears yellow in half of the light, while the other half appears milky white. If two spotlight flashlights are used to illuminate the cat's eye from two directions, and the gem is rotated back and forth around the direction of the filamentous inclusion, you can see that the cat's eye line opens for a while and closes for a while. Under the illumination of the spotlight flashlight, the rotating cat's eye jewel will open and close, shaped like a cat's eye, hence the name "cat's eye".

The role of opal

Cat's eye gemstone belongs to high-grade jade. In Southeast Asia, cat's eye gems are usually regarded as a symbol of good luck. Protect the owner's health and longevity and stay away from poverty.
