How to prepare concentrated iodine?
Iodine, also known as tincture of iodine, is a commonly used surgical disinfectant. Commonly used is an alcohol solution containing 2% ~ 3% iodine, and a strong iodine is used for skin and surgical disinfection. Because iodine dissolves slowly in alcohol, appropriate amount of potassium iodide should be added to accelerate the dissolution.

The formula of iodine wine is as follows: I2 25 g, KI 10 g, C2H5OH 500 mL, and finally add water to 1 000 mL.

During preparation, KI should be dissolved in 10 mL water to prepare a saturated solution. Then I2 is added to the KI solution, then C2H5OH is added, stirred and dissolved, and distilled water is added to 1 000 mL, which becomes a common skin disinfectant.

The formula of concentrated iodine for treating onychomycosis and surgical disinfection is as follows:

I2 100 g, KI 20 g, distilled water 20 mL, and finally add 90% C2H5OH to 1 000 mL.

The preparation method is the same as dilute iodine.

The prepared iodine should be stored in a closed brown glass bottle.
