Founded in August 1954, Shandong Provincial Museum is the first provincial comprehensive geography museum in New China.
Shandong Provincial Museum is the collection center of cultural relics and natural specimens in Shandong Province. * * * Collect all kinds of cultural relics, with 2 10000 specimens, accounting for about one third of the collection in the province. Among them, there are 3 national treasures, the first-class collection 1388, and the collection120,000 volumes.
The collection is mainly historical relics, and the prehistoric part includes the skull and tooth fossils of Yiyuan ape-man four or five hundred thousand years ago. There are exquisite painted pottery, white pottery and eggshell black pottery of Dawenkou culture and Longshan culture in Neolithic age. There are more than 5,000 Oracle bone inscriptions in Shang Dynasty, which is one of the provinces with the largest collection of Oracle bone inscriptions in China. Bronzes, such as bronze cymbals in Shang Dynasty, Fang Ding in Zuxin, Gongsun pot in Spring and Autumn Period and Warring States Period, and Guo Ziding, have attracted worldwide attention for their shapes and inscriptions. Bamboo slips of the Western Han Dynasty unearthed in Yinhuan Mountain, Linyi, such as Sun Tzu's Art of War and Sun Bin's Art of War, are listed as the top ten new archaeological discoveries in China in this century. Among the nearly 1,000 cultural relics unearthed from Zhu Tan's tomb in the Ming Dynasty, paintings in the Song Dynasty, jade articles and jade jewelry are the most famous. In addition, fossil specimens such as Shanwang Shandong bird and giant Shandong dragon in paleontological fossils are also rare treasures in natural specimens.
