Waxing jadeite is recognized in the jadeite industry and national jewelry standards, and belongs to the category of jadeite surface optimization, rather than the jadeite treatment that many jadeite friends think! Of course, not all jadeites need to be waxed. Generally, jadeites that need to be waxed are: 1, and only jadeites with good water retention and high density need to be waxed to make up for the defects. 2. Those jadeites with long water gap and low density. Why are you waxing? This should be the doubt of most Cui friends.
First, it is the same reason that girls like to make up, all to cover up big or small flaws. Emerald is a natural thing after all, and it can't be perfect. After waxing, the surface cracks or pits can be covered, so that the surface of the finished jadeite is clean, smooth and transparent.
Secondly, the main purpose of waxing is to put a protective layer on jadeite, so that the water inside jadeite is not easy to lose. Just like girls wearing sunscreen, the purpose is the same! And because waxing is non-toxic and harmless, generally as long as it is polished jade, it will be waxed!
Waxing can be divided into two ways: one is to soak jadeite in melted liquid paraffin, and the other is to heat jadeite slightly, spray white wax powder, and then wipe it with felt cloth to make the wax evenly cover the surface of jadeite. Different methods, the same principle, but if there is a crack in the jade soaked with wax, the wax will penetrate into it, making the jade more beautiful!
In fact, any change in the jade environment will increase the possibility of cracks. Even if it is left standing, there may be cracks, especially if the jade is not good. When waxing, the jade will be cracked from time to time when heated. If jade is good, the probability of this happening is much smaller.
However, if the texture of jadeite is loose, or after various pickling, the pores of jadeite will increase, leading to more paraffin filling into jadeite. Moreover, jadeite with more wax will produce white flowers due to the aging of wax over time, which will make the transparency of jadeite worse. Some jadeites only have this change for half a year because of the poor quality of wax. Therefore, the filling process of this wax is different from waxing, which can be called wax dipping treatment!
Identification of Waxing and Waxing of Emerald
1, ultraviolet fluorescence observation. The ultraviolet fluorescence of waxed jadeite is stronger than that of waxed jadeite, which is usually blue-white fluorescence with moderate intensity, and even has strong blue-white fluorescence.
2. Whether it is waxed or waxed jadeite, paraffin will age after a period of time. But the difference is that waxing only affects the surface quality of jadeite, while waxing jadeite changes the quality of jadeite from the inside out.
3. Waxed jadeite can issue an appraisal certificate, but if it is determined that it is waxed jadeite, it is impossible to issue an appraisal certificate.
4. Detect with infrared absorption spectrometer. Infrared absorption spectrum can better distinguish waxed jadeite from waxed jadeite. However, this requires professional operation. So if you need to know whether to wax or soak wax, you just need to hand over the jade to the jewelry inspection department and wait for the result.
