After modern times, the concept of "people" has been widely used, but it is often mixed with the words of citizens and nationals to refer to all members of society. After the birth of Marxism, the concept of people has a scientific and clear meaning. Historical materialism holds that man is a historical and political category, and its subject is always the working people engaged in the production of material materials. However, in different countries and different historical periods, the concept of people has different contents. For example, during the period of China and War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression, all anti-Japanese classes, strata and social groups belonged to the people; During the war of liberation, all classes, strata or social groups that opposed imperialism, the landlord class and the bureaucratic bourgeoisie belonged to the people. During the socialist period, the people's scope was wider, including not only workers, peasants and intellectuals, but also all patriots who supported socialism and the reunification of the motherland.

People have three meanings:
