The Human History of Caoxi Temple
In Yang Shen's works, in the heyday of Caoxi Temple, the main hall stood tall, the voices of monks and nuns chanting came and went, and the temple also managed the fields. The annual land rent income is considerable, and the vegetarian meal provided by the temple is eaten by almost 1000 people. Due to the destruction of soldiers, temples collapsed, monks scattered and scriptures and inscriptions disappeared. Caoxi Temple turned from prosperity to decline, and its reputation was gradually forgotten. It was not until Daocheng Zen Master overhauled it that it turned from prosperity to decline.

"Holy water" is not far from the temple, just in the forest not far north of the first mountain. In the winter of the second year (1568), three or four sentences of "Three Tides of Holy Water" in the Five Laws of Youcao Temple written by Fu Chen Dabin, Yunnan Province: "The waters of the four seas tide again day and night, and there is Koizumi in this temple alone, with three tides a day." Cao School wrote the same sentence: "The sixth ancestor Cao Yuan was in Lingnan." It shows that "holy water" was regarded as an integral part of the temple at that time. Since then, the names of "holy water" and "holy spring" have appeared widely, and "three tides of holy water" have become a peaceful scene.

After the Ming and Qing Dynasties, Caoxi Temple declined again. In the 29th year of Emperor Kangxi of Qing Dynasty (1690), Fan, the governor of Yunnan and Guizhou, visited the temple and saw that the cut epiphyllum roots grew new branches, so he donated three "flower-protecting mountain houses". Yunnan provincial judges mobilized Yunnan officials to donate money to rebuild Caoxi Temple. In the thirty-third year of Kangxi (1694), the whole temple was overhauled and completed, and Fan He (succeeded by the governor) wrote an inscription. In addition to the inscription "Tian Han" hanging in the main hall, the Tong family also built a lace building with the words "The Story of Lace Building" written on it. Wang Jiwen also rebuilt the Three Dynasties Spring Pavilion in Shui Sheng, and personally named it "Tuna Soul Nest". After the founding of People's Republic of China (PRC), the people's government maintained the whole temple. 1956, Caoxi Temple was declared as a provincial key cultural relics protection unit, and a management office was established to strengthen management. Since the reform and opening up, the colorful paintings in the temple have taken on a new look. And painted "Kowloon Map" and "Journey to the West" to decorate the door wall. There are some existing inscriptions on the stele gallery for people to enjoy. Among them, Song Feng Shuiyue, the imperial pen of Chongzhen, was extended from outside the province for a moment in Yunnan during the Republic of China.

The bronze Guanyin, existing in the "Three Saints of the South China Sea" in the back hall, has soft lines, dignified and kind shape and great ornamental value. According to legend, when the Tang Dynasty was in power, Xu Yun, a monk of Huating Temple, knew that this statue was a fine work of art and planned to move it to Huating Temple, but it was only preserved after local resistance.

The temple is famous for its wonders, such as Bao Yue, Pearl Spring and Three Tides of Holy Water. Caoxi Temple was built by the disciples of Huineng, the sixth ancestor of Baolin Temple in Caoxi, Guangdong Province in the Tang Dynasty. It has a history of more than 800 years, and it is a thousand-year-old temple.

There are different opinions about the wonders of "Tian Han Bao Yue". It is said that every 60 years during the Mid-Autumn Festival, the moonlight will shine directly into Sakyamuni's forehead in the main hall from the window on the front eaves, and as time goes by, it will shine from his forehead to his navel and then disappear. This is the legendary "Tian Han Bao Yue", also known as "the grass reflects the moon". In fact, this "sunshine Buddha's chest" spectacle does not have to wait for 60 years. Every spring and autumn, it will appear about half an hour after sunrise in the morning. By then, the giant Buddha will be golden and everyone will be amazed.
