Stellera chamaejasme in some areas of China has been regarded as a disastrous early warning of grassland desertification and a potential indicator of ecological deterioration.
Botanically speaking, Stellera chamaejasme is also called Saihua, including Stellera chamaejasme of Daphne family and Stellera chamaejasme of Euphorbiaceae family. Most of what you see on the plateau is Stellera chamaejasme of Daphne family. When the bud is red, the flower is white. One plant can blossom 10 ~ 20, with 5 petals. The diameter of the flower is less than 0.5 cm, which is small and exquisite. On the plateau, herders named it because its juice was poisonous. Stellera chamaejasme has large root system, strong water absorption capacity, adaptability to arid and cold climate and strong vitality. It is difficult for the surrounding herbs to compete with it, and it has been regarded as a "warning light" for grassland desertification in some places. The most important reason for the spread of Stellera chamaejasme in plateau is that people graze too much and there are few other species, so Stellera chamaejasme takes advantage of it.
Different names include Dipsacus asperoides (the essence) and Stellera chamaejasme (the prescription).
The source is Stellera chamaejasme of Daphne family or Euphorbia fischeriana of Euphorbiaceae and Euphorbia lunata.
