1987, Professor Yuan Kuirong began to train graduate students majoring in jewelry in Guilin University of Technology (formerly Guilin Institute of Metallurgical Geology). 1989 founded the first four-year undergraduate jewelry major in China-Gemstone Materials and Technology, which took the lead in training a group of urgently needed talents for the jewelry industry, some of whom have become the technical backbone of the jewelry industry, followed by some domestic universities. At present, only China Geo-University (Wuhan), Guilin University of Technology and China Geo-University (Beijing) have set up master's and doctoral disciplines in gemology, among which China Geo-University (Wuhan) and China Geo-University (Beijing) have independently set up second master's and doctoral disciplines in gemology, and Guilin University of Technology has set up a special research direction in gemology under the five two disciplines of geology.
