Before Empress Dowager Cixi's funeral, a layer of gold silk brocade mattress inlaid with pearls was laid, which was 7 inches thick and covered with large and small pearls 12604, 85 rubies and 203 white jade. On the brocade mattress, there is a silk mattress embroidered with lotus flowers with 2400 pearls on it. Cixi wore a gold dress, embroidered beaded robe and a beaded crown. The crown is inlaid with 2.5 egg-sized silver pearls, worth as much as 2 million taels. The head is covered with 108 Jade Buddha, and there is a night pearl in its mouth, which shines with cold light a hundred paces away. She has a jade lotus in her hand and eight jade carving horses at hand, 18 jade arhat. The most precious thing in the coffin is a Jiuzhen Long Ta carved from white jade with green patterns and flowing smoke clouds. In order to fill the gap in the coffin, 500 large pearls, 2,200 medium pearls, 1000 small pearls, and 100 emeralds and sapphires were also poured. The last net of pearls was covered with more than 6000 pearls. This is just a part of the coffin funerary objects.

From the completion of the mausoleum of Empress Dowager Cixi 1897 to the final closure of the underground palace, more than 1000 rare jewels have been placed in the underground palace in the past 30 years. It is estimated that the funerary objects of Cixi are worth about 1 100 million taels of silver. At that time, people said, "Cixi took most of the state treasury to the grave."
