Duan Yucai's learning story.
There are many stories about Duan Yucai in Jintan.

As the saying goes, ten years of Qing dynasty magistrate, 100 thousand snowflakes and silver. When Duan Yucai stepped down as county magistrate, he brought back 72 boxes of heavy treasures, which made people suddenly red. That night, a dozen robbers came and robbed it. However, the next day, they returned the original things. It turned out that the robbers found the box full of books, all of which were moved by the helpless old man.

Duan Yucai's rigorous scholarship throughout his life is well-known in academic circles. Duan Suoqing, a descendant of Duan's family, is now a teacher of Jinhua Middle School in Jintan. He collected a lot of information and wrote the article "Duan Yucai's Scholarship Spirit". He wrote:

Jiangsu Jintan, which belongs to Changzhou City, is surrounded by mountains and lakes, with Maoshan in the west and Lintao Lake in the south. In Dabatou Village, a small county in the south of the Yangtze River, Duan Yucai was born in Yongzheng 13. His great-grandfather, grandfather and father are all scholars in the county, educated and educated. His grandfather once said in a poem: "Don't plant an inkstone field, you will not be happy, you will not raise iron bones, and you will not raise the poor", which became Duan's family motto. According to the chronicles of Duan Yucai, the whole family drinks porridge at both ends every three days, and only eats rice at noon every other day. In this adversity, Cai Yu is still eager to learn. According to the Records of Jintan County, Duan Yucai "read a thousand words every day". Born at the age of 13, he was praised by Jiangsu scholar Yin. When he was a scholar at the age of 25, he read the Five Classics of Music by Mr. Gu, marveling at its extensive textual research, deeply influenced by his thoughts and academics, and fell in love with Sinology. The so-called Sinology refers to the study of Confucian classics by economists in the Qing Dynasty, focusing on exegesis (explaining the meaning of words in ancient books), also known as Puxue. Later, he studied under Dai Zhen, a master of Confucian classics, and made great achievements in textual research and exegesis.

During the thirty-five to forty-five years of Qianlong, Duan Yucai was a magistrate in Yuping, Guizhou, Fushun, Nanxi and Wushan, Sichuan for ten years. He is busy with official business during the day and reads or writes books at night. When he was in Wushan, Sichuan, he lived in the West Lake Building. A bright light in the middle of the night, some people pointed out that it is "the magistrate reads the building." At the age of 46, in order to write exegetical notes, he resigned from Wushan, Sichuan. When I came back, I was clean, and I only brought back 72 boxes of books. My relatives and friends also mistakenly thought that I brought back gold and silver.

After Duan Yucai resigned and went home, he closed the door and continued to write Notes on Explaining Words. He studied the form, sound and meaning of every word meticulously. Once, in the cold winter, he rode a donkey to Hangzhou for the night, spent more than a month going back and forth, and finally made a few difficult words clear. When he was writing a book, in order to find out the situation of wheat flowering, he consulted the old farmer. When the wheat blossomed, he personally went to the wheat field to observe it in the middle of the night, and waited until the fifth watch, when the wheat blossomed. He summed up the result of this observation as follows: "There are two petals of flowers, which are yellowish in color, but still contain flowers, with quite a beard in the middle, yellow petals in the head, and elites in the night", which shows his rigorous scholarship.

Duan Yucai wrote a lot in his life, including Jing Yun Lou Ji and Zhou Lihan Reading Test. But among his many works, Shuo Wen Jie Zi Zhu is his masterpiece, which embodies his hard work for most of his life. According to his account, he wrote this book because "most people who have been studying Shuo Wen Jie Zi (written by Xu Shen in Han Dynasty) can't understand its coherence and test its arts and sciences". In order to write exegetical notes, he consulted more than 200 books. He wrote 65,438+040 volumes of Reading and Interpreting in 65,438+09 years from 465,438+0 years in Qianlong. Then it took 13 years to process and refine, that is, Jiaqing completed 20 volumes of Shuowen Jiezi Annotation in 12, and it was not until his 80th birthday that it was printed. It is worth mentioning that at the age of 60, his right foot was broken and disabled, but he still refused to give up and continued to annotate Shuowen. He believes that "Zuo Qiu was blind, lost his Mandarin, and Sun Tzu learned the art of war". Facts have proved that Duan's feet are not good, and "Notes on Explaining Words" is completed. As soon as this book came out, as his grandson Gong Zizhen said, the origin of the word: "Everything is like drinking."

Duan Yucai, a master of Park Studies, has not only made outstanding achievements in cultivating inkstone fields, but also won the support of the whole people for his service. During his tenure as governor of Fushun, Sichuan, he refused to take bribes and was famous for helping the poor. One day, Zhao Jiangcai, a gentleman from Tuojiang, sent two boxes of gifts, one for 500 taels of silver and one for 30 feet of silks and satins. He wants Duan Yucai to give him 500 mu of arable land and 800 mu of forest tax relief.

In the face of gold and silver jewelry, Duan Yucai was not at all tempted. Tazo

Words do not leave the line. First, I found the word "Zhu" in Shuo Wen Jie Zi, and said, "This is a pictophonetic character with a left sound and a right sound. On the left is the baby's word "Bei" and on the right is the word "Qiu". In other words, some people make demands on the recipient while giving others property. This is called bribery. Later, Duan Yucai ordered two boxes of gifts to be returned to their original owners, and sent a message to the gentleman: "A gentleman loves money and takes it wisely, but he will never take ill-gotten money. "

In such a feudal dynasty, it is difficult to think of corruption. Duan Yucai's integrity and innocence are really commendable. The key to his preciousness lies in his combination of "knowledge" and "action".

The combination of "knowing" and "doing" is difficult! Now almost all cadres understand the meaning of the word "bribe" and know that the purpose of bribing people is to seek better. They even know more about the dangers of corruption and bribery than the general public, but there are always corrupt officials, which is a problem in their behavior. Zhang Zonghai, a "straw sandals public servant" who has just been sentenced to 15 for accepting bribes, is a typical representative in this respect. As the propaganda minister, Zhang Zonghai "knows" more than others. However, this "straw sandals public servant" was out of touch with his knowledge and practice, and was used by businessmen and colluded with them, thus degenerating, "going astray" and becoming a prisoner. What a pity!

Nowadays, from the central government to the local government, the publicity of clean government education is more tightly grasped than ever before. In this sense, cadres at all levels have more channels to "know". In addition, discipline inspection and supervision departments at all levels are further strengthening supervision over party and government cadres. If they can combine knowledge with practice and take the initiative to accept supervision, they can "do the right thing" and not "wrestle".

"A gentleman loves money, takes it wisely, and resolutely does not want ill-gotten gains." Although this passage by Duan Yucai is an old saying, it still sounds like a warning to others.
