Before the twentieth century, there was no such concept as Father's Day. At the beginning of the 20th century, at the time of 19 10, American Bruce Dodd began to publicize a festival.
Mrs. Dodd's mother died in childbirth when she gave birth to her sixth child, while Mrs. Dodd's father took the responsibility of raising six children alone. Mrs. Dodd's father works hard during the day and takes care of his six children at night. It was very hard, and finally I died from overwork 1909. Mrs. Dodd misses her father very much and understands him very much, so she wants to establish Father's Day to commemorate all the hard-working fathers in the world.
China also has Father's Day, which was founded in the Republic of China and was scheduled for August 8. However, after the founding of New China, it was not a habit. Father's Day in June is now generally celebrated in China.
Second, the origin of Mother's Day?
Mother's Day in the modern sense originated in America. The earliest initiator of modern Mother's Day is American woman anna marie jarvis. Her mother, Mrs Jarvis, joined the military medical team during the civil war. After the war, Mrs Jarvis came up with the idea of setting up a memorial day for mothers who lost their children in the war, but this idea failed to come true before her death.
1907 coincides with the second anniversary of Mrs Jarvis's death. One of her daughters, anna jarvis, remembered her mother's wishes and wrote to Andrews Methodist Church in grafton, West Virginia, asking for a special memorial service for her mother on the second anniversary of her death. Her mother served the Sunday school of this church for more than 20 years before her death. The church agreed, and on May 6th of that year, that is, 438+02, a worship ceremony was held for the mothers. The following year, the church declared the Sunday on which Jarvis's mother died-the second week of May-as Mother's Day.
But Anna didn't stop there. Jarvis organized a Mother's Day Committee and began a large-scale publicity, calling for Mother's Day as a legal holiday. Finally, with her constant efforts, 1908, Philadelphia held a Mother's Day activity modeled after the memorial ceremony of Andrews Methodist Episcopal Church, which received enthusiastic response. 19 10 West Virginia became the first state in the United States to celebrate Mother's Day.
By 19 1 1, activities to celebrate Mother's Day have been widely carried out in various states in the United States, and Americans have also published leaflets about this festival in many languages. The craze for celebrating Mother's Day has even spread to Canada, Mexico and some countries in South America, and it has intensified with the passage of time. 19 12 years, the United States formally established the international mother's day association.
19 13 in may, the house of representatives unanimously passed a resolution calling on the president and cabinet, the Senate and the House of Representatives, and officials of the federal government to wear white carnations on mother's day. Finally, in 19 14, Congress asked US President Woodrow Wilson to officially declare Mother's Day a national holiday, and called on all citizens to hang the national flag at home to show their love and respect for their mothers.
Mrs Jarvis's last wish came true at the push of her daughter. Before Anna died, Mother's Day had been established in 43 countries, but the dates were different.
