One day around 1373, Shen Wansan, the richest man in the south of the Yangtze River, had a wonderful conversation with Zhu Yuanzhang and Kan Kan, who were about to ascend to the throne. He must have been very happy and proud at that time. However, he didn't expect that only 10 years later, his family would be destroyed and his son Shen Wen would crawl to see a new official. Shen Wansan was the most famous businessman in the late Yuan Dynasty. There is a folk proverb: "Nanjing Shen Wansan, Beijing withered willow, a person's name, the shadow of a tree." He was born in Shenjiayang, Nanxun Town, Xing Wu (now Huzhou, Zhejiang Province), and then moved to Zhouzhuang, Kunshan, Suye. Judging from various notes, there are three reasons why Shen Wansan became extremely rich.

The name of Shen Wansan's wealth spread all over the country at that time. According to folklore, his family has a "cornucopia", so there are inexhaustible gold and silver jewelry. When the scholars in the south of the Yangtze River rebelled against the Yuan Dynasty, many wealthy Han landlords in the south of the Yangtze River gave active support. Shen Wansan first funded Zhang Shicheng to help it buy food and expand its army. Later, he took refuge in the more powerful Zhu Yuanzhang. Zhu Yuanzhang, who was born at the grassroots level, widely recruited these wealthy businessmen as officials and even became brothers with them. Shen Wansan is one of the most important financiers. According to folklore, he and Zhu Yuanzhang once became sworn brothers of Jin Lan. After the Ming regime made Nanjing its capital, it was difficult to build the wall, so Shen Wansan built a third of the wall from Hongwumen to Shuiximen with his own money, and donated 2,000 ingots of platinum and 200 kilograms of gold to help build the cloisters and restaurants in Nanjing, which was praised by the court.

On one occasion, the monarch was chatting with his subjects, and Shen Wansan, all smiles, suddenly offered a sum of money to reward the three armed forces. Zhu Yuanzhang said coldly, "I have millions of soldiers and horses. Can you reward me? " Shen Wansan replied, "How about I treat each person to one or two pieces of gold?" When Shen's richest man said this, his heart should be very lively and proud. He may not have noticed the vagaries of Zhu Yuanzhang's face. After this conversation, the conversation between Zhu Yuanzhang and Ma Xiuying was recorded in the Biography of Ming Fei. The emperor endured the anger and said, "there is a man who wants to reward the three armies." He wants to start a rebellion. I must kill him. " The queen persuaded, "God will kill such an ominous person. Your majesty doesn't need to do this." In the imperial era of "I am the world", who is God? The emperor, of course. Ma Huanghou actually means that you haven't killed Shen Wansan. Every dynasty in China showed a relaxed atmosphere at the beginning of the founding of the People's Republic, allowing industrial and commercial freedom and restoring the vitality of the people. The Ming Dynasty is no exception.

After Zhu Yuanzhang ascended the throne, he proposed a large-scale tax reduction plan to reduce the burden on the people. At the same time, it is forbidden to disturb the people, and the government cannot buy people's things at low prices in the name of festivals. However, when the regime is slightly stable, the attitude of the rulers to industry and commerce will change subtly immediately. Every time the regime changes, new politicians will reflect on the mistakes of their predecessors. Zhu Yuanzhang's reaction was: "Yuanshi County was weak, Fu Wei moved down and tamed the chaos." In other words, the decentralization of centralization and the powerful influence of the people have caused disasters. So when he heard that Shen Wansan was going to reward the three armed forces, he was furious. It is this kind of psychological conditioning. Zhu Yuanzhang deeply felt that the rich people were intertwined in the local area, which would inevitably become too big to fail and must be cut off. In the early years of Hong Wu's accession to the throne, he ordered the relocation of 0/0.4 million people from the south of the Yangtze River to Fengyang, Anhui Province, including many wealthy businessmen and landlords. According to the records of Bei Qiong, a scholar in the Ming Dynasty, after the clansmen of the Three Wu Dynasties left their homeland, they became fish out of water and lost all their assets. Within a few years, they will die or move, and none of them will be spared. These people miss the luxurious life in the past, so they often dress up as beggars and go home to visit relatives. They sang their own Fengyang Flower Drum along the way: "I live in Fengyang, Luzhou. Fengyang is a good place. Since Ming Chengzu Zhu, there have been nine years of famine in ten years. " After Zhu Yuanzhang made Nanjing his capital, he moved 67,300 wealthy businessmen to Nanjing twice, which was almost a panic attack on the merchant class.

Shen Wansan's destiny cannot be changed when it becomes a national strategy. 1373 (the sixth year of Hongwu), Shen Wansan was exiled to Yunnan on trumped-up charges. It is impossible to prove when he died. 1in the spring of 386 (the 19th year of Hongwu), the Shen family was once again involved in a lawsuit due to a dispute over land tax. Shen Wansan's two grandchildren, Shen Zhi and Shen Zhuang, were put in prison, and Shen Zhuang died in prison that year. 1398 (thirty-one year of Hongwu), Shen Wansan's son-in-law Gu was involved in a rebellion case, and the Gu family and the Shen family were killed on the same day, more than 80 people were killed and their fields were confiscated. Shenyang has since declined.
