The difference between diamond certificates
I. GIA certificate, international ID card of diamond
GIA certificate is a diamond appraisal certificate issued by American Gemological Institute. The 4C standard that everyone talks about every day was founded by GIA Gemological Institute in America. Later, the GIA standard was used as a reference by appraisal institutions all over the world.
GIA's credibility is very, very high, because it is a non-profit organization, and its credibility comes first for them, so it will not be affected by human factors. Diamonds with GIA diamond certificate are recognized all over the world.
The first part is basic information, including date, license number, shape, lathe worker and diamond size. But please note that the date here refers to the date when this diamond was identified by GIA.
The second part is what we often call 4C grade, that is, carat number, color grade, clarity and cut.
The third part is additional information, telling you the polishing, symmetry, fluorescence reaction, clarity characteristics and laser coding of this diamond. The laser code here is the same as the certificate number in the basic information. Not every diamond has a laser code. Generally speaking, everything below 1 carat is available, and everything above 1 carat is not available, unless the customer for inspection has special requirements.
The fourth part is the GIA certificate number. You can check the authenticity of the certificate through GIA official website.
The fifth part is the cut scale diagram of diamonds, with the full depth ratio, table width ratio, crown angle, crown height ratio, pavilion angle and pavilion depth ratio all marked.
The last part is the grade standard of clarity, color grade and cutting. You can compare the position of your diamond in the GIA grade according to the previous information.
In addition to official website, the GIA certificate has a QR code in the lower right corner. After scanning, you will jump directly to GIA's official website. You can enter the certificate number directly to check the authenticity.
Second, the Chinese ID card of diamonds-National Diamond Inspection Certificate
The National Diamond Inspection Certificate is a diamond certificate issued by the National Jewelry and Jade Quality Supervision and Inspection Center, and it is the authority in jewelry and jade inspection in China.
The contents of the national diamond inspection certificate include certificate number, total mass, shape, color, clarity, table width ratio, pavilion depth ratio, precious metal detection and remarks.
There are two kinds of diamond certificates for national inspection: bare diamonds and diamond-encrusted diamonds. If the diamond is inlaid, the total quality marked on the national inspection certificate is issued after the diamond is inlaid, that is, the total quality of the whole jewelry, not the quality of the bare diamond.
The remarks column describes the description of other characteristics of diamonds not mentioned in the report, and the treated gems will be marked with specific treatment methods.
Although they are all authoritative institutions, just like physical examination in different physical examination centers, the test results will be slightly different.
1. Diamonds with GIA diamond certificate are recognized all over the world, while the national diamond inspection certificate is only valid in China.
2.GIA only issues grading certificates for bare diamonds, while NGTC has grading certificates for bare diamonds and inlaid diamonds. Generally, we refer to the classification certificate of inlaid diamonds.
3. If the color and clarity of your same diamond are slightly different between the two organizations, it is because the appraisal is done by appraisers. Although with the help of instruments, it is inevitable that there will be some errors in the results seen by the naked eye, but it will not affect the quality identification of diamonds.
4. The details of national inspection and GIA diamond certificate are slightly different. For example, the GIA diamond certificate will describe the eight arrows and fluorescence grade of the diamond, but the NGTC diamond certificate does not.
As for which certificate is more convincing and which institution is more authoritative, it should be said that both are authoritative independent institutions. Although GIA's certificate is recognized all over the world and the national inspection is only valid in China, it does not affect their appraisal of diamond quality. The reason why I introduce the difference between national inspection certificate and GIA certificate to you today is that I hope you can reduce your doubts about different diamond certificates when buying diamond jewelry, and at the same time, you should not ask too much for diamond certificates.
