The epigraphy archaeology prevailing in the Song Dynasty called bronzes, ancient jade and ancient ceramics "antiquities" or "artifacts", which prevailed in the Ming Dynasty and the middle Qing Dynasty. However, the "antiques" we are used to talking about now include calligraphy and painting, rare books of ancient books and classical furniture, bamboo carvings, Four Treasures of the Study, coins, weaving and embroidery, etc. And its connotation is more than the original "antique".

Folk collection of antiques can be roughly divided into the above ten categories, and each category can be subdivided into many. For example, bronzes in Shang and Zhou Dynasties, spears and arrows, crossbows and bronze pots in Han Dynasty, bronze mirrors, bronze buddhas, hooks, chariots and horses in previous dynasties, etc. Among them, the bronzes of Shang and Zhou dynasties are the most precious, and now they are rare in the antique market.

Ceramics can be divided into ancient pottery, primitive porcelain and porcelain, and the three colors of Tang Dynasty should be classified as pottery. There are many kinds of porcelain according to kiln mouth. In Song Dynasty, the five famous kilns of Guan, Ge, Ru, Ding and Jun, as well as the Ming Chenghua Doucai, were all the best, with high prices and few quantities, and they have disappeared. The most common products on the market are Ming and Qing kiln porcelain and modern imitations.

Jade articles include Neolithic jade articles, ancient jade articles from Shang and Zhou dynasties, and jade carvings from Han and Tang dynasties to Ming and Qing dynasties. At present, there are many decorative jade, ornaments and antique jade hanging on the market.

Because calligraphy and painting are not easy to preserve, the original works in Song and Yuan Dynasties are rare, and calligraphy and painting in Ming and Qing Dynasties are rare, so most of the calligraphy and painting collections at present are mainly works of modern painters and painters.

Rare books of ancient books are also preserved in Ming and Qing dynasties. In the Qing Dynasty and the Republic of China, the price of good inscriptions was often ten times higher than that of famous calligraphy and painting, but now it is just the opposite.

Classical furniture is expensive in hardwood furniture in Ming and Qing dynasties. At the end of last century, it was worth a hundred times, and it was almost collected in the domestic market. Now the products are mainly miscellaneous wood furniture and imitation wood furniture.

Ancient coins can be classified according to historical years, and their value is relatively low because of their large number.

Bamboo and wood carvings are mostly modern objects. If they are carved in Ming and Qing Dynasties, they are secondhand goods.

As for Four Treasures of the Study, Gu Yan has the largest collection and the price is relatively low. Embroidery has fewer collectors and less value.

In addition to these ten categories, there are dozens of folk antique collections such as gold and silver wares, musical instruments, utensils, snuff bottles, weights and measures, antique clocks and watches, so I won't go into details here.
