Totoro, the scientific name of which is South American Totoro, belongs to the family Totoro of the suborder porcupine. Because it resembled the cartoon My Neighbor Totoro created by Miyazaki Hayao, it was later renamed my neighbor totoro by Hong Kong people.

[Edit this paragraph] Basic information
Totoro, also known as Totoro, Totoro and Totoro,
Personality: docile, lovely, intelligent, curious, lively, intelligent, naughty, quiet, timid, clean and likable.
My scientific name is South American chinchilla, which belongs to the family Chinchilla of the suborder porcupine. Because it resembled Miyazaki Hayao's cartoon Totoro [1], it was later renamed "My Totoro" by Hong Kong people.
My neighbor chinchilla belongs to the South American chinchilla family of mammals, rodents and porcupines. When it comes to mice, many people think of them. Actually, it's completely different from a mouse. The main difference is that mice are omnivores, while chinchillas are vegetarians, and their digestive systems are different. Mice have double ovulation tubes and chinchillas have single ovulation tubes, so mice (including hamsters) can give birth to a litter every 20 days, while chinchillas can only give birth to 1-2 twice a year, and the probability of giving birth to 1-2 once is 80%.
Biologically, they are a unique species of chinchillas.
Totoro is divided into the following categories:
1) Olivia the Totoro-the wild one is almost extinct.
2) King Chinchilla-a giant chinchilla with a length of 40 cm, also called real chinchilla, became extinct hundreds of years ago. The only remaining specimens are now kept in the Senkenberg Museum in Germany.
3) Chinchillanigera)-used as fur and pets; Most of the captive chinchillas belong to this category, and the wild ones are almost extinct. All wild chinchillas originating in South America belong to protected animals, and those that can be legally imported are artificially propagated abroad.
[Edit this paragraph] Appearance characteristics
Chinchilla cats are very similar to rabbits and squirrels in appearance. It is small and fat, with a rabbit-like head and a squirrel-like tail. Adult chinchillas weigh about 430-700g and have a tail length of 10- 14cm. The newborn baby weighs about 50 grams. My neighbor totoro has a pair of big bright eyes and many beards of different lengths beside her nose. She is very sensitive to touch. Ears are big and thin, blunt and round. The forelimbs are short with five toes, and the hind limbs are strong with four toes, and they are good at jumping. The hair on the back and sides of the chinchilla is grayish black (there are some other artificially cultivated colors), and the abdomen gradually turns from light to white, and the body hair is evenly distributed. Totoro's hair is the thickest in the world, with 40~60 hairs in each pore, and as many as 80 hairs in the United States, the best source (cats and dogs have only 1 ~ 3 hairs in each pore), but such soft and dense hairs have also brought nearly extinct nightmares to Totoro.
Color:
Standard gray-the whole body is gray, the abdomen is white, the hair is gray-black, the whole body is gray, and there are dark gray and light gray.
Beige/apricot-the whole body is beige, the ears are pink and the eyes are brown or red.
Golden/champagne-white background, golden hair evenly distributed all over the body, pink ears and red eyes.
Velvet black-face is black, body is black, abdomen is white, and coat color is particularly black and shiny.
Velvet brown-similar to velvet black, but replaced by brown, brown face and brown body, white belly, pink ears and red eyes.
Silver background, gray hair evenly distributed all over the body, commonly known as "Silver Totoro"
Silver spots-white background, with obvious gray stripes on the face, forming a beautiful pattern.
Golden spots-white background, beige stripes, pink ears and red eyes.
All black/Bearman black-all black with gray hair.
Pure black-the whole body is black, without any miscellaneous hair, and the hair is particularly black and shiny.
Pink white-the whole body is beige, the eyes are red and the ears are pink.
Red-eye white-panchromatic white, red eyes, pink ears
Pure white-all white, black eyes, smoked ears.
Pure brown-the whole body is brown, and the eyes are black or reddish brown.
The whole body is purple-gray, and the abdomen is white.
Gray-blue-the whole body is gray-blue, the abdomen is white and the ears are pink.
Brown/purple brown-light hair, pink ears and red eyes.
Totoro prices range from standard gray to brown 500-8000 yuan.
[Edit this paragraph] Source
My neighbor totoro's ancestors once lived in the cracks in the Andes at an altitude of 500- 1200m in South America. Although the climate is cold and dry, and the temperature difference between day and night is great, the chinchillas still live a quiet and happy social life. In my hometown, chinchillas are very short of food. My neighbor totoro can only live on bark, grass roots and cactus, which makes my neighbor totoro have strong vitality and resistance. It is precisely because of such harsh natural conditions that the number of babies born by chinchillas has naturally decreased and the pregnancy cycle has been prolonged: each baby of chinchillas is only 1-3, and the average pregnancy period is as high as11day. But another advantage is that the life span of chinchillas is also the longest among rodents, with an average life span of 12-20 years, and it has a record of being healthy for 35 years in an artificial feeding environment. Therefore, as a pet, my totoro can accompany its owner for a long time. My neighbor totoro has the thickest hair in the world, with 40-60 hairs in each pore. In the United States with the best provenance, it can even reach 80 hairs per pore (cats and dogs only have 1-3 hairs per pore). In my hometown, the fur of chinchilla is a symbol of power, auspiciousness and wealth, and it is an ornament of indigenous chiefs. /kloc-In the 6th century, Spanish colonists set foot in the hometown of my neighbor totoro. They found that the fur of this little animal is so soft and its temperament is so gentle. Centuries of hunting and the sharp increase in the number of foxes have made chinchillas almost extinct. By the beginning of the19th century, my neighbor totoro had been arrested and hunted to the brink of extinction. M.F.Chapman, a mining engineer from the United States, offered a large reward. It took four years to collect 1 1 chinchillas (8 males and 3 females) and bring them back to the United States to breed successfully. Today, you and I have a chance to raise this lovely little animal. At present, most chinchillas in the world belong to this 65438.
At present, the wild chinchilla has not been found for a long time, and it is likely to be extinct. According to the Washington Convention, they are first-class protected animals. At present, the United States has the largest number of chinchillas, followed by Canada, Argentina, Germany, the Netherlands, Denmark, Chile, Uruguay and other countries. Due to climatic and geographical reasons, there are no formed chinchilla farms in Hong Kong and Japan. Totoro is not produced, but the quality and quantity of private farming and sales are unstable. Many farms in the northern States of the United States have raised a large number of chinchillas for many years. At present, there are about 8,000 farms with the most known breeding. Canada began to import chinchillas from the United States from 1937. At present, the main producing areas are British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Ontario. As the United States is the first country to successfully artificially breed chinchillas, American breeders can be regarded as the most experienced experts. The first chinchilla breeder association, ECBC (Queen Chinchilla Farmers Cooperative), was established in 1938. This organization is dedicated to serving breeders who are committed to the fur industry. 1950, more and more people raised chinchillas, and another association was born, that is, MCBA (Mutant Chinchillas Breeders Association) held various competitions in various provinces of China every year to let breeders watch and communicate with each other. At present, farmers in the United States and Canada highly admire the standards and competitions formulated by the above two associations.
Wild chinchillas live in polar climates such as cracks, caves and bushes in the Andes of Chile, Argentina, Bolivia and Peru in South America at an altitude of 500-1200m. Also called rabbit.
Wild chinchillas have a great temperature difference between day and night, and they like to eat shrubs, flowers and fruits. They can also hide under these thorny shrubs to protect themselves.
Some Indian tribes are called chinchillas by the Spanish. They like to use the hair of my neighbor totoro to make mattresses and eat their meat, so my English name is cinchilla. In China, it has several names: biologists call it South American Totoro; The farm calls it my neighbor totoro; The fur industry calls it blue-purple cashmere mouse; And those of us who really like it and regard it as the best pet in the world, call it my neighbor totoro, because it once played the leading role in the movie of Japanese anime master Miyazaki Hayao!
[Edit this paragraph] Distribution
Totoro, which originated in the Andes of South America, is a kind of rodent that existed in prehistoric times.
Shortly after the Spanish occupied the American continent, my neighbor totoro was regarded as a treasure internationally because of its luxurious and soft fur.
Before that, chinchillas thrived in the dry and steep Andes in Chile, Peru, Bolivia and Argentina. The name of my neighbor totoro comes from the local Indian Chinchas. These Indians use chinchillas as food and clothes. In the15th century, an Indian race named Chincha caught these small animals as food and made beds out of their fur. They also wear robes woven with chinchilla fur. The Spanish named this small animal totoro after the Chincha family. Later, Chincha was conquered by the powerful Inca Empire.
According to the laws of the Inca Empire, Chincha people were forbidden to wear robes made of chinchilla fur. They immediately became the exclusive furs of the Inca royal family, and only Inca nobles were allowed to wear them. /kloc-In the 6th century, Spanish conquerors sought noble sacrifices for their queen, and the Incas were conquered by the Spanish in turn.
Legend has it that a special envoy wanted to please the queen and gave her a big box full of jewels and gold products. He wrapped the box in a chinchilla robe stolen from the Inca chief.
However, the emissary he sent stole the jewels, presented only the box containing the fur robe of my neighbor totoro, and then ran away. The queen was overjoyed by such exquisite and noble fur. The thief was found and brought back to court, and was pardoned for torture and death. Instead, he was knighted for this rare and exquisite fur, because the queen had never seen more beautiful and luxurious fur than my neighbor totoro before. Since then, my neighbor totoro has been known to the civilized world, and countless Spanish women are looking for the same fur as their queen. It is so soft, light, delicate, elegant and shiny that people can't put it down, and they feel lucky to see my neighbor totoro. As a result, the Spaniards in South America are as keen on my neighbor totoro as they are on gold and precious stones. The news that there are such rare and lovely furs in the world spread quickly in Europe. Historically, gold diggers invited Britons who loved hunting and other wild sports to the Andes, because red foxes began to flood in the natural habitat of chinchillas. Every weekend, the British hunt foxes, but foxes hunt chinchillas every day. Due to the demand for fur and the killing of foxes, the number of chinchillas has gradually decreased and is on the verge of extinction. 19 18 the governments of Chile, Peru and Bolivia have enacted laws to protect fur exports. However, it is impossible to save the endangered fate of my neighbor totoro. 19 18 Mathias F. Chapman, an American mining engineer, learned about the precious value of chinchilla by chance. A local Indian migrant worker brought this precious animal to the mining camp. Mathias F. Chapman realized the valuable value of chinchillas and was shocked by their tragic fate, so he considered catching some and bringing them back to the United States for breeding to save this species. His partners thought that My Neighbor Totoro was actually extinct, and all previous efforts of artificial breeding failed, so when he submitted a plan to save My Neighbor Totoro to his partners, they thought he must be crazy. Even so, he began to gather some Indian migrant workers and promised them a lot of gold to buy every live chinchilla. Finally, four years later, some of these precious animals were collected in the Andes where 23 Indian tribes lived. * * * Male 8, female 3, 1 1. They were allowed to take back to America. Chapman spent several months transporting them from the plateau at an altitude of 10000 feet to the port gradually, so as to adapt them to the changes of environment, altitude, temperature and humidity. Along the way, ice was used to lower the room temperature, and they were fed local food. 1923 In February, he finally transported my chinchillas to San Pedro Port, California, where they successfully bred and saved them from extinction. From the beginning of 1923 1 1 my neighbor totoro, my neighbor totoro industry developed slowly. At 1950, the artificially bred chinchillas sold for several thousand dollars per pair (equivalent to tens of thousands of dollars now). In this market exploration process, anyone with vision can see the broad prospects of the totoro industry. These people found a huge potential market for chinchilla fur. They set up an organization to create a chinchilla fur market. At present, it is estimated that there are about one million chinchillas in the world. The United States has the largest number of chinchillas, followed by Canada, Argentina, Germany, the Netherlands, Denmark, Chile, Uruguay and other countries.
[Edit this paragraph] Mr. Chapman and my Totoro.
Those of us who like or own pet chinchillas should thank Mr. M.F. Chapman for bringing us these gentle animals that make us happy. Almost every living chinchilla is a descendant of the chinchilla population originally domesticated by Mr. M.F. Chapman. This story is about the trainer of this chinchilla.
Totoro was originally distributed in the Andes of South America. Their existence was unknown to the outside world until the Spanish colonists conquered the Chinka Indians in 1500. Later, the fur of Totoro was sent to Europe as a gift to the nobles. Totoro fur became popular in Europe from 1700, and hunters began to plan to capture the remaining totoro population on a large scale from 1800. 1899, Richard Glick, from Leipzig, Germany, was called "the king of chipmunks". He handled 78,500 pieces of chipmunks' fur, and in the following years, he handled 30 pieces. It is estimated that more than 1000000 chinchillas were killed during this period, and their fur was transported to Europe. Finally, when the chinchillas were almost extinct, some South American governments passed some legal provisions declaring it illegal to kill chinchillas.
19 18, Matthias F. Chapman was a mining engineer working in Anaconda copper mine in Chile. One day, a local Indian from Chile came to Chapman's camp to sell a chinchilla he caught and put in a can. Chapman bought this chinchilla and became more and more interested in this small animal. Based on his experience of living with this chipmunk, he came up with a plan to get more chipmunks and transport them to America. At first, he thought that chinchillas could be domesticated as pets. Later, he began to consider providing domesticated chinchillas to the fur market. At the time of 19 19, Mr. Chapman started the arrest plan. He plans to capture as many chinchillas as possible to build a breeding population.
There are several different kinds of chinchillas living in the Andes. The relatively small Costina chinchilla was found at low altitude, while the large Lanigera chinchilla was found at high altitude. Chapman's home is located in Potrerillos, Chile, at an altitude of 10400 feet, which is considered to be the junction of the smaller Costina chinchilla and the larger Lanigera chinchilla at low altitude. Because most chinchillas living in low altitude areas were captured when Chapman began to collect chinchillas, it is generally believed that most chinchillas captured by Chapman are large Lanigera chinchillas.

Matters needing attention in selecting chinchillas
First of all, the standard of healthy chinchillas
1, running and jumping are lively, active, flexible and smooth, and walking without shaking. (This kind of chinchilla is basically healthy. )
2, the body capillary, dense, uniform, no exposed skin or dander after blowing, the tail capillary and hard, no hair or dander. Hairless chinchillas may have fungi or bites. )
3, active, but not exaggerated, can stop after normal play. No biting, mania, jumping, hitting the cage. Sleeping is so sweet. My chinchilla sleeps during the day. It is normal for a timid cat to jump up, scream and even be afraid of losing its hair for a short time after a stranger approaches. )
4. My chinchilla has no eye scale or redness around her eyes. Cats with yellow-green eye stains or red eyes are inflamed. )
5, the hepatic portal is clean, no loose stool or dirt. Normal chinchilla feces should be hard, oval, dark green or dark brown about half a centimeter long. Cats with soft and thin stools and dirty anus have digestive system diseases. )
6, the whole body without injury, no blood stains, tail upturned, symmetrical limbs without deformity, can eat normally. (Such a chinchilla is definitely free from fractures and trauma. )
7, can defecate normally, urinate, no frequent urination, urinate at any time. (Male chinchilla is born with frequent urination, unable to urinate smoothly, and may be infertile. )
8. The two front teeth are the same length and yellow, which can be covered by lips, and there is no salivation. My chinchilla, whose teeth are too long and too white to drool, can't eat, and may have gingivitis. My neighbor totoro has a broken tooth, but the root of the tooth is still there. There is no big problem after the tooth grows out. )
Second, the standard of good-looking Totoro
1, short round face; Wide eye distance, big eyes and deep eye socket; The beard is arched.
2, round body, thick body hair, velvet, bright, neat tail hair, vertical roots.
3, fingers, ears, hair without defects, long tail.
Third, the standard of good-tempered totoro
1, cheerful personality; Don't make any noise, scream, run around or lose your hair when you meet strangers.
2. docile personality; Hold it on your body, don't pee on people, and don't bite hard.
Four, color cat selection criteria
This question is more complicated, and the headmaster hasn't given it to me yet. )
5. The best time for my totoro to take home.
1, commercial cats: 2-3 months. Cat farm conditions are ripe, and cats are precocious. Cats of this age are the easiest to establish feelings with their owners. ?
2. Cats at home: 4-5 months. Family conditions are not as good as cat farms. Letting kittens leave their mothers prematurely will make kittens prone to various health problems. A cat that is too big is not easy to establish feelings with its owner. However, it doesn't necessarily take 4-5 months for domestic cats to adapt to their new home ~ With the popularization of feeding knowledge, parents have more and more experience in taking care of parturient and newborn, and new families are ready to take care of the little ones seriously and scientifically. As long as the kitten is more than 2 months old, weighs 220g, has no congenital diseases and defects, lives alone in the original family for about a week and adapts to independent life, it can leave for a new home. -reply from QQCAT)
Six, buy a cat precautions
1. Prepare cages, furniture, food and supplies in advance, or take them home with the cat. Never buy a cat first, take the cat to a distant place to buy supplies, and don't mix it with inappropriate equipment. It is best to ensure that the cat's living environment is between 15 ~ 23, not lower than 0,5 degrees for a long time, and definitely not higher than 28 degrees.
2. My neighbor totoro is timid by nature. Cat friends can let the cat smell through the cage first, please it with snacks, and then let the original owner take it out of the cage and give it to himself slowly. It is tentative for a cat to bite its finger. Cat friends must not panic and scare the cat.
3. Take the cat home with a stable container, and never let the cat roll to fix the round container. The container should be as big as two cats, with enough air holes around it. Be sure to put sawdust (to keep warm) and practical grass in the container (to prevent cats from biting the container when idle).
4. It is best for the cat to stay in a temporary container (such as a carton) for no more than 2 hours.
I hope all cat friends can have their own favorite and healthy cats.
rise
My neighbor totoro is very docile and lively. She likes to jump around, active and curious. She sniffs every new thing before biting it down to study it. Totoro belongs to plateau animals and is not easy to get sick. My neighbor totoro is clean and free of parasites. My neighbor totoro can bathe in sand and spend the weekend alone without worrying about taking care of it. My neighbor totoro is a single vegetarian, so its feces are oval, dry, granular and tasteless, so it is no problem to keep indoors. My neighbor totoro's hair is soft, and it doesn't shed like cats and dogs. If you want to keep a chinchilla, I suggest you start feeding it after the kitten is weaned for 2-3 months, so that it is easiest for chinchilla to reach a tacit understanding and closeness with its owner. But even if adult chinchillas are raised halfway, chinchillas can gradually respond intelligently to the care of their owners. My neighbor totoro doesn't only recognize one owner and listen to one owner all his life, but often "chooses" the closest and most dependent person among the owners who take care of him.
My neighbor totoro is a gentle and docile baby, with an average life expectancy of 15-20 years. Did not take the initiative to attack, met the enemy just run away or pee on the enemy. When he trusts you, he will be happy to play with you, be lively and active like a child, and like to jump. He is timid and lovely by nature, and will hide when he is in trouble. Every chinchilla has its own personality, clever, naughty, reserved or spoiled, but what * * * has in common is that she needs you to love, care for and protect her. Don't try to educate your totoro with corporal punishment, which will lead her to turn a blind eye to her master, but will make her distrust you and turn against her.
Pay attention to when raising chinchillas:
◆ Summer is a sad season for my totoro, because my totoro's hair is thick, so when it is sultry in summer, it is best to turn on the air conditioner at home to reduce the indoor temperature.
My totoro cage should be placed in a cool and ventilated place, not in the air outlet. If my totoro keeps being blown by the wind, I will catch a cold.
◆ You can usually please my neighbor totoro with a small amount of snacks and get close to it; But don't feed more, such as raisins, just feed 1 to 2 yuan a day. If I feed more snacks, it will not only make my chinchilla picky eaters, but also lead to long-term malnutrition, which is more likely to cause indigestion and diarrhea.
My totoro cage should be placed in a quiet place. If the surrounding environment is noisy, my chinchilla will not rest well because of nervousness.
◆ My Totoro has just arrived at a new home, so the owner should not rush to let it out. Let it stay in the cage for a while to get familiar with the new environment and new owner, and then let it play for a while. The time can be shorter first, and the space for play can also be smaller first.
◆ When the owner is free, you can gently call the name of my neighbor totoro next to its cage and talk to it. This will make my totoro remember its name and its owner's voice. It should be noted that you must speak kindly and don't scold it loudly, otherwise my neighbor totoro will only be afraid of you and won't come near you.
type
Totoro Breeding-Complete Notes
Usually, before letting the totoro couple live together, let them get to know each other first. It is best to let them look at each other through two cages. After a few days, they can try to stay in the same cage without quarreling across it. Although my neighbor totoro is a very docile animal, fights between the same kind still happen from time to time. They often bite off their hair or lose their ears. Therefore, putting two chinchillas in a cage requires a process to get to know each other at a safe distance.
The marriage between chinchillas takes place in the estrus of chinchillas. Male chinchillas can be in estrus all year round, but that's no good, because they can't force her if they don't want to. If the male chinchilla is stubborn, it will only be bitten all over the cage and bruised all over. Generally speaking, my neighbor totoro will be bigger, and my neighbor totoro will always win when fighting.
Usually, chinchillas mate at night. When they are not disturbed, they will kiss each other first, smell each other's genitals and chase each other. Totoro's mating time is very short, and it will only comb its hair separately for a few seconds. If hair loss is normal during this period, there is no need to worry about them.
The owner only needs to pay attention to whether the two sides have caused trauma during mating, and if necessary, he needs some trauma drugs mentioned above for treatment.
Mating has a certain loss to my chinchilla, so we should pay attention to the nutritional supplement before and after.
If mating is successful, a small tube with a length of about 1cm can be found at the bottom of the cage the next day, which is called "mating plug", which is a sign of successful mating.
Disease and prevention
diarrhea
Please carefully check whether there is dirt and diarrhea nearby when buying my totoro. In this case, please do not buy.
Etiology: Mainly related to food. The incidence rate is higher in summer, and children are more susceptible to this disease than adults. Eating high water content feed, wet pellet feed, too much green feed in summer, poor quality licorice, oil feed and fruit will all cause diarrhea.
Symptoms: Mild diarrhea has little effect on my chinchilla, and there is no abnormal performance. Fecal particles are soft and sticky, and bread has a layer of stickiness. Some fecal particles stuck to the ground in the cage. When diarrhea is severe, the feces are thin and soft or mushy, which pollutes the hair nearby. My chinchilla often licks *, which makes her feel uneasy and painful from time to time. Diarrhea, especially severe diarrhea, is prone to enteritis if it is not treated in time.
Prevention and treatment: Mild diarrhea can be treated by adjusting feed. For example, stop feeding all feeds containing more water and grease, and further dry pellet feed and hay. When diarrhea is severe, you must adjust the feed and take medicine at the same time. In order to prevent secondary enteritis, sulfanilamide 0.5g should be used twice a day for 2-3 days.
constipation
Etiology: The main reasons are food intake and nervous system dysfunction.
Symptoms: defecation is obviously reduced or stopped, and feces are few and dry. My neighbor totoro stopped eating and drinking, curled up in one place, too lazy to move, hunched his back with pain, listless and closed his eyes.
Prevention and control: reduce or avoid human interference. Increase drinking water or supply some oily liquid and green fresh digestible feed, such as whole milk powder, glucose water, apples, etc. When the above methods are ineffective, the following drugs can be used for treatment: 1. Inject it into rectum with kaiselu 2. Take 2% liquid paraffin or soapy water orally, 5-15mm3 each time. Use 65438.
enteritis
Etiology: Enteritis is contagious. If found, it should be isolated and treated immediately, and the whole group should be disinfected to prevent the spread of the disease. Mostly caused by severe diarrhea, it may also be caused by other chinchillas.
Symptoms: The feces are sticky or watery, accompanied by yellow-green mucus, or bloodshot in the thin feces. The sick chinchilla has increased body temperature, decreased appetite or hunger strike, disheveled and atrophied body hair, and is lazy in the cage angle.
Control method: soak and disinfect the sick chinchilla cage with potassium permanganate solution with concentration of 1%-2%. Chloramphenicol was administered orally or by injection, with an oral dose of 0.3-0.5g and an injection dose of 0.35ml 1 time/day for 3-4 days. It can also be used with oral sulfanilamide 0.5g and chloramphenicol 0.35ml for chinchillas on hunger strike.
bug
Etiology: contact with the source of infection (sick chinchilla) or the environment is too humid.
Symptoms: Hair falls off from the roots, patches appear on the skin, and dandruff-like fragments can be found when the hair is blown away.
Prevention and treatment: Apply 1% trichlorfon solution to the affected area once a day for 3-5 days, and put the chinchilla in a dry environment.
ophthalmia
Etiology: Mostly caused by dust entering the eyes when catching a cold or taking a sand bath. In addition, poor sanitation can also lead to.
Symptoms: red and swollen eyes, increased tears or secretions.
Treatment: penicillin eye drops, 1 drop each time, 1-2 times a day.
Tooth malocclusion
Etiology: Due to the long-term lack of cork for chinchilla to chew, chinchilla's teeth grow too long, which hinders chewing and cannot eat.
Symptoms: The excessively long front teeth are obviously exposed outside the lips, turning from normal light yellow to white, with red lips and salivation.
Prevention and treatment: Always put the merits of wood blocks in cages to prevent teeth from growing out in vain. Cut off the long front teeth with scissors and apply anti-inflammatory drugs for 3 days.
Trichophilia
Etiology: this is a terrible disease for two reasons: one is caused by acquired external stimuli; Second, it is hereditary. He Miaomiao can be passed on to the descendants of chinchillas, so chinchillas with this disease are not allowed to participate in raising and selling, but some pet merchants still sell this kind of chinchillas and their descendants.
Symptoms: Generally speaking, they are neurotic, easily excited, eat their own hair, and some people like to bite.
Prevention and treatment: hereditary trichophagia is generally incurable. For the treatment caused by acquired diseases, appropriate multivitamins can be supplemented, which will generally achieve results. Therefore, it is recommended that you carefully observe the appearance of my neighbor totoro when buying. If you find that its wool is defective, please don't buy it.
wound
Cause: Bite or pinch injury.
Symptoms: skin bleeding
Prevention and treatment: Yunnan Baiyao is applied externally, or sulfanilamide powder is sprinkled on the affected area, and sand bath is prohibited during treatment.
suffer sunstroke
Etiology: It mainly occurs on hot days in summer. When the indoor temperature exceeds 30℃, chinchillas are prone to heatstroke. Therefore, it is necessary to strengthen ventilation and take various measures to control the room temperature.
Symptoms: Mild people look tired, lose appetite and have reddish ears. In severe cases, breathing is accelerated and then weakened, so that people can't stand, their heads are tilted back, and they die soon.
Prevention and treatment: For the mild cases, they should be taken to a low-temperature room for feeding, and a layer of cool oil should be properly rubbed on the nose, or Ren Dan 1 tablet should be taken orally. For critically ill patients, treatment is ineffective because they die quickly. Therefore, prevention is the main treatment.
break
Cause: Fracture caused by accident.
Symptoms: Fracture can be found by touching.
Prevention and treatment: general fracture, without inflammation or affecting survival, let it heal naturally, remove the appliances at the height of the cage and avoid jumping. Surgery or splint fixation is not recommended, because chinchilla will bite the splint, surgery will stimulate the nerves, and anesthetic is easy to cause death.
If there is a serious fracture, if it is a limb, it can be amputated, and the wound will heal naturally with Baiyao.
