Species refers to the texture of jadeite, and it is also the most basic description of a jadeite product. The old species, new species, glass species, ice species, egg white species, bean species, oil green species, blue flower, blue water and clear water mentioned in the market are all established trade names, but because these trade names are not clearly defined in the standards, they cannot be used as our grading standards.
In fact, the crystal particle size of jadeite and the relationship between these particles are the main reasons for determining the commercial varieties of jadeite, and the following grading standards have been formulated:
grade scale
The structure of 1 grade is fine and dense. No mineral particles and composite primary cracks are found under the magnifying glass of 10, and the particle size is less than 0.1mm..
The secondary structure is dense, and mineral particles and a small amount of fine composite primary cracks with a particle size of 0. 1 ~ 1mm can be seen under the magnifying glass.
The tertiary structure is not compact enough, and mineral particles with particle size of 1~3mm and local fine composite primary cracks can be seen under the magnifying glass of 10.
The fourth-grade structure is loose, and the particle size is different, and the particle size is above 3 mm
Water (* * * level 5)
"Water" is an important factor in the evaluation of jadeite, commonly known as "water head" in the industry. The high transparency is that the water head is sufficient, which makes jadeite appear crystal clear and gives people a watery feeling. The jadeite with poor transparency gives people a dry feeling, that is, the water head is poor and the water is insufficient. The transparency of jadeite can be roughly divided into transparent, relatively transparent, translucent, slightly transparent and opaque. The more transparent jadeite is, the higher its value is;
Horizontal transparency, sunshine, progress, common commercial varieties
1 transparent 10mm pure colorless old glass floor
Grade 2 is relatively transparent, 6~ 10mm, and a small amount of old glass is preferred.
Grade 3 translucent 3~6mm old glass ground ice seed quality products.
Grade 4 slightly transparent 1~3mm thick color, coarse grain, new and old species.
Class 5 opaque sunlight cannot penetrate new species with strong colors and poor background.
Bottom (***4)
Bottom refers to the degree of color spots such as jade flocs (also known as cotton) and black spots. Because jadeite is a collection of various minerals, its structure is mostly fibrous and granular, and the degree of impurities will inevitably affect the value of jadeite.
grade scale
1 class 10 times magnifying glass, there are no cracks, gray-black wires, and occasionally white cotton and small black spots in inconspicuous places.
No cracks are found under the magnifying glass of Grade 2 10 times, but a small amount of fine white cotton, black spots and gray-black silk are seen.
Grade III: no cracks were found with naked eyes, a small amount of cracks were found under the magnifying glass of 10 times, and a small amount of white cotton, black spots and ice slag were visible with naked eyes.
At grade 4, a small number of cracks and more white cotton, black spots, gray silk and ice slag were observed by naked eyes.
Color (***6)
The common colors of jadeite are green, white, red, purple and yellow. Among them, green is the best variety. If a piece of jade has green, red and purple at the same time, it is also a very rare jade.
Jewelry industry divides jadeite into A, B, C and D goods. A commodity has natural color and novel structure; Commodity b has poor transparency. After soaking in acid solution, impurities dissolve, the structure is destroyed and the specific gravity is reduced. C goods are white jadeite, dyed with dye or laser, the color is not correct, and it has the feeling of "evil" color, and it fades after about four years; D goods, all kinds of substitutes. You can tell when you collect it.
There is no distinction between old and new jadeite, but texture, size and color are the main factors. It is not difficult to identify the true and false jadeite, as long as you look at the color, the second weight and the third hardness, there is nothing to hide immediately. It is particularly important that jadeite is observed under a magnifying glass, and its fiber crystal composition can be seen that it presents fine ripples. Any imitation has absolutely no such characteristics. From the perspective of modeling and sculpture, it also reflects its characteristics of the times. At present, old-fashioned workers are still popular in Hong Kong and Taiwan, and the theme is still festive and auspicious patterns.
