In order to be more natural, the "whitening process" was adopted (the middle section of natural agate was coated with alkaline compounds and then heated to make it a natural agate. This process is unique in Tibet, and people call the etched agate crafts made by this process "the purest dzi beads". Due to the complexity of this kind of technology and high production cost, DYDZ gradually disappeared.
