1. weighing method: the specific gravity of cinnabar is 8. 10, which is a natural mineral. The content of cinnabar can be judged by weighing. This method is only suitable for judging cinnabar and plastic imitation.
2. Marking method: Mohs hardness of cinnabar is 2.5 (Mohs hardness is a standard of mineral hardness, also known as Mohs hardness. 1822 was first put forward by FrederichMohs, a german mineralogist, and is a standard used in mineralogy or gemology. The hardness is very low, so cinnabar can draw red lines on paper, and red lines can also be drawn with low content.
3. Slice observation method: high content vermilion slices can clearly see mineral particles and crystal minerals, while low content vermilion slices are relatively flat and have a strong plastic feeling. Generally, the profile shown in Figure 3 can only be seen when the content reaches more than 80%.
4. Fire reduction method: At a certain temperature (about 400 degrees) and standard pressure, the conversion reaction between red cinnabar α-HgS and black cinnabar β-HgS. When the temperature exceeds this temperature, α-HGS (red) is rapidly converted into β-HGS (black), and this physical change can be realized when the content of cinnabar is high enough.
