Zhang Qian's mission to the Western Regions opened up the Silk Road and promoted the economic and cultural exchanges between the East and the West. From Chang 'an through Hexi Corridor, it is divided into north and south roads. The south road goes west from Yangguan (now southwest of Dunhuang, Gansu), passes through Shanshan (now near Robnor), along the northern foot of Kunlun Mountain, and passes through Khotan (now Hotan), Dongsha and Puli (now).
