The experiment and research on energy and water cycle in Huaihe River Basin (1997-2003) presided by Professor Zhao Bailin is one of the world atmospheric science experiments. Because the Global Energy and Water Cycle Experiment (GEWEX) has set up five experimental areas in the world, and Asia is the East Asian Monsoon Experiment (GAME), China's "Experiment and Research on Energy and Water Cycle in Huaihe River Basin" is an important part of the Asian Monsoon Experiment.

It is a major project of China Natural Science Foundation and a scientific research project of Japan's Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, with the participation of 24 units from China, Japan and Korea.

The project team led by Academician Zhao Bailin successfully completed the experimental and research tasks of the project, and organized and implemented meteorological and hydrological observation experiments in the Huaihe River Basin. In the recovery of experimental data and database construction, in the development of data four-dimensional assimilation system; There are innovations and characteristics in the study of water-heat cycle structure in Huaihe River basin, nesting and forecasting of hydrometeorological models, and the application of TRMM satellite and radar data in rainstorm monitoring and forecasting, which have reached the international advanced level on the whole. Specific performance in:

1. 1998 and 1999 successfully carried out large-scale meteorological and hydrological joint field observation experiments in eastern China, and the four-dimensional structure of mesoscale and mesoscale clouds and precipitation in Meiyu front system was observed for the first time, including a three-dimensional observation network composed of digital weather radar and Doppler radar. This is the first joint meteorological and hydrological experiment carried out in the semi-humid monsoon region of East Asia at home and abroad.

2. The developed regional data assimilation system and four-dimensional assimilation data set have been applied in international and domestic related research work. These data are of great value to the diagnosis, analysis and mechanism study of East Asian monsoon and Meiyu front system. The high-quality acquisition of HUBEX data has made an important contribution to the establishment of a high-quality reanalysis data set for the East Asian Monsoon Test Program (GAME). Promote the world climate research program. HUBEX plays an important role in the game plan.

3. The functions of different physical processes in the water-heat cycle of Huaihe River Basin and their effects on regional climate are studied, and the comprehensive physical images of energy and water cycle in Huaihe River Basin, as well as the quantitative parameters and characteristics of land-air exchange in the process of land surface are obtained. These achievements have been used in the improvement and prediction of climate model, and good benefits have been achieved in the application.

4. Using the latest satellite and radar detection data such as TRMM, the mesoscale cloud and rain structure characteristics in Meiyu front system in Huaihe River basin are inversed, which provides an important physical basis for further understanding the formation mechanism of Meiyu front and rainstorm forecast. In this study, the numerical simulation test and real-time forecast of mesoscale short-term rainstorm have been successfully carried out, and good results have been achieved.

5. Using the experimental data, the regional climate model is improved, a new land surface process model and hydrological model are developed, and the coupling of regional climate model and hydrological model is studied, which has achieved obvious results in the meteorological and hydrological forecast of Meiyu in Jianghuai and precipitation in Huaihe River during flood season. It has played a good role in flood forecasting in Huaihe River Basin.

6. Outstanding achievements have been made in participating in the international cooperation of GEWEX/GAME. Especially in China and Japan, scientists have promoted the cooperation and exchanges between scientists of the two countries through joint research on energy and water cycle of Huaihe River, observation, analysis and numerical simulation of East Asian monsoon process, which has produced good international influence. 1970- 1987 microwave radiometer and its environmental remote sensing application;
