If all the treasures that can be thrown into the well can be taken away during Eight-Nation Alliance's invasion of China, how can they be thrown into the well? Usually the palace is patrolled by guards, so it can't be salvaged in time if it is thrown into the well.
All in all, the whimsical statement, although there is nothing to say in essence. However, the role of the "well" in the Forbidden City can still be expanded.
(1) The wells in the Forbidden City are mainly domestic water and fire water. In case of fire, water is taken from the water tank instead of well water, but hundreds of tons of water in the water tank comes from the well.
There are 73 wells, including 28 Jingting wells (it is said that 72 wells are not allowed and 27 Jingting wells are not allowed). Places with pavilions are important leisure areas.
For example, the Royal Garden, Changchun Palace, Xianfu Palace, Yonghe Palace, Ren Jing Palace, Yudetang, Ningshoumen, Gan Qing Gate and other important places. The purpose of building a well pavilion is to protect well water from pollution, and its water use is more important.
For many wells, it is mainly domestic water and fire water. For example, as a wooden building, fire prevention is very necessary. At the beginning of the construction of the Forbidden City in Judy's period of Ming Dynasty, the meridian gate was burnt out because of setting off firecrackers, and there were also serious fires in Ming and Qing Dynasties. The burning of the three halls and the harem took place between the Ming Dynasty and Jiaqing. Therefore, fire prevention is extremely important.
Then, the main fire prevention equipment is water. The utensils for holding water are mainly the big water tanks in the Forbidden City, and the big water tanks are copper tanks.
There are 308 large water tanks in the Forbidden City, including 18 gold-plated copper tanks cast in the Ming Dynasty, each weighing 1696 kg. 1944, the Japanese invaders occupied 54 mouths, and now there should be 254 inside the Forbidden City. These vats should have water every day, even in winter, and they should not be frozen. The manufacturing department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs should supervise the water supply and antifreeze every day. How to thaw and prevent freezing? There is a gap at the bottom of the cylinder, which can be thawed by burning charcoal. This water should be available every day, from time to time, not less, not moving, less on the supplement!
The water in the copper cylinder is all well water, not the water from Yuquan Mountain. These copper pots need hundreds of tons of water, and what if the water can't stink forever? Therefore, these waters need to be washed regularly. This is also a big project!
(2) Well water in the Forbidden City is also mainly used for the domestic water of ordinary maids, and drinking is one of them. Some people say you can't drink, but you know it's impossible with your brain.
Some people say that the water in Yuquan Mountain is for emperors and concubines to eat and drink. What about ordinary eunuchs, ladies-in-waiting, guards and so on? Everyone needs seven or eight pounds of water every day, not to mention that women don't just eat and drink. The population of the palace is as high as 40,000 to 50,000, and it takes 400,000 Jin just to eat and drink! Then, there are many uses, such as washing clothes, such as cleaning, such as flushing toilets, such as sprinkling water for dust removal and wetting, and so on.
Ancient water delivery vehicle
It is conservatively estimated that the palace needs at least 500 to 600 tons of water every day. There were no cars in Ming and Qing dynasties, but they were driven by horses and waterwheels. Then, this workload is not small. You have to distribute and carry hundreds of tons of water every day, and there are many safety problems. So only a few people can drink the water in Yuquan Mountain. These are simple things that can be analyzed by the brain.
To sum up, there are no treasures in the 73 wells of the Forbidden City, which are used for daily life and fire prevention.
