How are diamond rings graded?
I. Classification of Diamonds Generally speaking, the grades of diamonds are classified by 4C. The so-called 4C refers to the color, clarity, grams and cut of the diamond. These four aspects determine the quality of diamonds.

1, color

Color Grades of Diamonds GIA classifies the color changes of colorless to light yellow or light brown series diamonds into 23 continuous color grades, with English letters D, E, F, G, H, I, J, K, L, M, N, O, Q, R, S, T, U, V, W, X, Y and Z representing different colors from high to low.

Generally buy a diamond ring, the closer it is to colorless, the better. The lower the color scale, the yellower the diamond will be, and the fire color of the yellow diamond will be covered up, so the fire color performance of the diamond will be poor. The color scale of diamonds is more intuitive, and the higher the color scale, the more crystal clear it is.

Step 2 be clear

Diamonds are naturally formed. Even though they generally look smooth, there are actually some natural flaws in them. Just like there are black spots in absorbent cotton or jade, this is normal.

Then the clarity of a diamond is actually an index used to measure the defects of a diamond. It uses a standard magnifying glass of 10 times to observe the degree of defects inside and outside the diamond. The higher the definition, the brighter and the better the quality.

GIA cleanliness grading system has 1 1 cleanliness grades, which are FL, IF, VVS 1, VVS2, VS2, SI 1, SI2, I 1, I2 and I3 in turn.

Under the magnification of 10, diamonds have no internal and external characteristics and are subdivided into FL,

Under the magnifying glass of 10 times, diamonds have tiny internal and external characteristics, which are subdivided into VVS 1.

Under the magnifying glass of 10 times, diamonds have tiny internal and external characteristics, which are subdivided into VS 1.

Under the magnifying glass of 10 times, diamonds have obvious internal and external characteristics, which are subdivided into SI 1,

Seen from the crown, diamonds have internal and external characteristics, which are subdivided into I 1, I2 and I3.

So according to the naked eye, it is class I that can see the definition defect.

3, cutting work

If you want your diamond ring to shine, it is not enough just that the size and color of the diamond meet the standard. A good diamond also needs perfect cutting to reflect its brightness and fire color.

Round diamond cutting and grinding usually consists of 57 facets, including crown, pavilion and waist; Crown angle, pavilion angle, platform width ratio, pavilion depth ratio, waist thickness ratio, etc.

GIA's cutting level is divided into five grades: EX (excellent), VG (very good), G (good), F (weak) and P (poor).

The cutting level also includes five polishing levels: EX (excellent), VG (excellent), G (good), F (dull) and P (poor).

The cutting grade also includes five symmetrical grades, EX (excellent), VG (excellent), G (good), F (weak) and P (poor).

4. Number of carats

The carat weight of a diamond is the size of a diamond. 1.00ct equals 0.2g, and one carat equals 100 point. Usually, 50 points equals 0.50 carats.

When other parameters meet the requirements, the greater the carat weight of the diamond, the better. After all, the size is relatively intuitive, and the first thing you see is the size of the diamond.

You can choose the appropriate size according to your own budget. If you have no idea about the size of a diamond, you can go to the jewelry counter and get a general impression of the size.

Second, how to choose different grades of diamonds If the budget is very sufficient, it is of course best to reach full grade in all four aspects. But most people still have budget restrictions on buying diamond rings. It is really not easy to find a perfect diamond. So at this time, how should we choose these different grades?

Remember a principle: cutting > color > number of carats > clarity. The order of the middle color and carat number can be changed.

● Cutting: When you buy a diamond, you must cut it with 3EX, so that even if your diamond is smaller, it can still shine brightly and look brighter visually.

● Color level: Bian Xiao suggested to choose H color or above as far as possible, that is, ≥ H. If the diamond is ≥2 carats, try to choose > H. Because the greater the weight of the diamond carat, the stronger the color, so it will appear yellow.

● Clarity: Bian Xiao suggests to choose the clarity level of SI 1 or above, that is ≥SI 1, depending on the budget. From the practical point of view, SI 1 is the most practical and cost-effective.

Because after all, the clarity grade of diamonds is observed with a magnifying glass of ten times. We only wear diamonds that are visible to the naked eye. As long as the naked eye can't see the clarity defect, the fire color and brightness of the diamond are also very good, which is completely acceptable.

● Carat number: This depends on your own budget. If all other conditions are met, choose the maximum number of carats. If you are married, it is recommended to choose more than 30 points as far as possible.
