The difference between jadeite and jade:
1, different history
Emerald: By the end of the Qing Dynasty and the beginning of the Republic of China, there were more than 100 jade workshops and more than 3,000 jade carving craftsmen in Tengchong alone. "Utensils" are sold to top-grade jades in Yunnan provinces, and most of them are sent to Meng Gong and Myitkyina, Myanmar, where jades are produced in the local chronicles of Inch Kaitai Tengyue in eastern Guangdong, Shanghai, Fujian, Zhejiang and Kyoto, only150km away from the border of Yunnan, China.
During the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty, this place was once under the jurisdiction of Yongchang Prefecture (now Baoshan City, Yunnan Province). Due to historical reasons, jadeite, known as the "Oriental Treasure", has been imported into China through border cities such as Tengchong and Ruili for four or five hundred years.
Jade: In China, jade has a history of more than 5,000 years since the Paleolithic Age. It records the changes of human life and society, many years earlier than gold, silver, copper and iron. From Paleolithic Age to slave society and feudal society, wearing jade represents people's social status.
2, the classification is different
Jadeite: There are more than ten kinds of common varieties, such as Laokeng Jadeite, Ice Jadeite and Water Jadeite.
Emerald: According to GIG's research, jadeite can be divided into nephrite and jadeite. Nephrite is a traditional jade material in China, and its name comes from nephrite. Because nephrite is the best in Hotan area of Xinjiang, people often call nephrite "Hotan jade". The hardness of nephrite is generally 5.6-6.5 degrees, and it is opaque or translucent. Jadeite refers to jadeite produced in Myanmar.
3, the range of origin is different
Jadeite: Jadeite is produced in few places, only in the United States, Japanese, Russian, Guatemalan, Myanmar, China and other countries.
Jade: Jade has a wide range. Hetian jade, agate, jadeite, turquoise and other jade belong to the scope of jade and are produced all over the world.
