The original title is "Shanghai 1 hour mystery", which does not represent the viewpoint of enterprise magazine. The writer is an assistant researcher at the Yangtze River Delta Research Institute.

At the beginning of 2020, the emergence of COVID-19 hit the global tourism. However, with the gradual control of the epidemic, the domestic tourism industry is recovering in the tide of returning to work and the long-awaited enthusiasm of tourists. It is worth noting that when the Yangtze River Delta and even more surrounding areas seized the opportunity to develop tourism, they all turned their attention to Shanghai, the largest central city around.

In the tide of all over the world competing to become the "back garden" of Shanghai, we can't help asking: Is it more important to stay away from Shanghai for a few hours, or to explore our irreplaceable tourism resources, or is there something more important that has been inadvertently ignored?

Many cities or regions pay attention to Shanghai when developing tourism, and the most concentrated expression is the concept of "Shanghai Back Garden". It is often mentioned in the publicity of many cities and related projects.

However, searching online for "Shanghai Back Garden" and classifying it, you will find that the contents contained in these items referring to Shanghai Back Garden are complicated. Some use the concept of garden to package and promote real estate, some use it as a base for producing agricultural products in Shanghai, and the rest are for the tourism promotion of Shanghai tourists.

Specific to the geographical location, as far as Qingpu, Songjiang, Chongming and Jinshan in the suburbs, Yancheng, Qidong and Anji in the Yangtze River Delta, and even Linyi in Shandong around the region, there have been such expressions. Some come from the official propaganda of the local government, and some are just discussions by the media or netizens.

But there is no doubt that all areas that focus on the concept of "back garden" have one thing in common, that is, natural resources and ecological environment are superior to metropolis. In the era of consumption upgrading, especially when outbound tourism stops due to the epidemic, domestic tourism is undoubtedly a big cake. Therefore, it is not difficult to explain that the "back garden" disputes in various places are actually driven by the needs of economic and industrial development. So, why is Shanghai so popular as the front hall of the garden?

First of all, the most direct, of course, is the real tourism spending power of tourists from Shanghai. The "20 19 National Tourism Consumption Report" released by Ctrip Group shows that Shanghai ranks first among the top 20 cities in domestic tourism consumption, which has opened a big gap with the cities after the third place. According to the National Day holiday data of 20 19, during the long holiday, Shanghai tourists spent 3 144 yuan per capita for domestic travel and 7,294 yuan per capita for outbound travel, ranking first among domestic cities. Affected by the epidemic this year, a large number of passengers preparing to leave the country turned to China, especially for short trips around. The strong consumption power of Shanghai residents can only bring more benefits to the tourism industry in neighboring cities.

Secondly, geographical location and traffic factors are also critical. Shanghai faces the sea in the east, and its geographical position is in the front. Since China's reform and opening up, the focus of economic development has been the open economy in coastal areas, and the coastal areas have played a leading role in the hinterland of the mainland. This also constitutes a geographical and economic sense of the distinction between before and after.

In recent years, with the rapid development of high-speed rail, the Yangtze River Delta region is forming a dense and developed high-speed rail network centered on Shanghai. At present, with Shanghai as the center, there are 9 cities (including districts and counties) in the Yangtze River Delta 1 hour, concentrated in southern Jiangsu and as far away as Nanjing and Hangzhou. There are four in two hours and nine in three hours. With the continuous construction of railways, this number will continue to expand. Coupled with the continuous expansion of expressways, it is more convenient for Shanghai tourists to travel to surrounding areas.

In addition, behind the "Shanghai Back Garden" is a different imagination of big cities and rural life. As the most modern and international metropolis in China, Shanghai can be said to bear all the imaginations of China people about modern life, modernization and metropolis. But at the same time, urban diseases, including housing congestion, traffic congestion, environmental degradation and so on. , will continue to intensify with the population gathering. Indeed, high-rise buildings, vertical and horizontal streets, fast-paced life and high housing prices are all easy to make people yearn for returning to nature and rural life. Small cities and villages in the Yangtze River Delta just meet this kind of imagination and demand, and the "back garden" doesn't sound far away, just right. It also implies that the contrast between here and modern life is enough to smooth the fatigue caused by crowded buildings and crowds.

So, what does it mean for these regions and cities to strive to be the "back garden" of Shanghai?

The most obvious is the promotion of local economic development. Among them, in addition to the intuitive increase in tourism income, there are foreigners entering the local development and promotion.

For example, there is an ancient bamboo village in Shuikou Township, Changxing County, Huzhou, with 1.3 million households and 585 farmhouses and homestays. Because it attracts a large number of foreign tourists with Shanghai tourists as the main group, it is like coming to a village in the suburbs of Shanghai and hearing that the village is full of Shanghai dialect, so tourists call it "Shanghai Village". In the final analysis, Wu Ruian, an old Chinese doctor in Shanghai, was the first person to develop medical care and rural tourism here. 1998 After a trip, he took a fancy to the ecological environment of Guzhu Village and invested in opening a paradise for the elderly.

Similarly, in the rural revitalization survey in Yixing, it was learned that many rural areas did not rely on local villagers to develop homestays and tourism, but encouraged villagers to contract their land leases to professional teams for management and care. On the one hand, this can ensure the income of villagers, on the other hand, it can also make the brands, landscapes and facilities of local villages more stylized and characteristic. The entry of foreign talents has also brought more emerging business models and publicity methods. For example, through Tik Tok for tourism promotion, on-site sales of rural agricultural products and so on. , will further promote local economic development.

However, it should also be noted that with the continuous development of urban agglomerations in the Yangtze River Delta region, many central cities and regional central cities are also rising rapidly. With the improvement of people's living standards and the increase of disposable income, tourism demand will inevitably continue to grow. The "2020-202 1 Christmas New Year's Day Tourism Consumption Trend Report" released by Tuniu Tourism shows that among the top ten tourist destinations in China, Nanjing, Shanghai and Hangzhou will contribute 57% of the tourists. Then, in the future, cities and regions in the Yangtze River Delta region will only do a good job in Shanghai's "back garden", which may not be enough to focus on developing tourism. In fact, more and more places are proposing to build the "back garden" of the Yangtze River Delta or the "back garden" of the city.

In addition, it is worth noting that some established tourist cities, such as Suzhou and Hangzhou, were once called the "back gardens" of Shanghai because of their proximity to Shanghai and high tourism resources. But now, with the development of economy and the continuous improvement of urban energy level, this title has been gradually shaken off in online discussions and replaced by a more distinctive urban positioning and image.

From this, we should also clearly realize that although tourism has the advantages of low pollution, high added value and brand effect, it is difficult to become a local pillar industry. In the future, all localities should rely on the talents and benefits driven by tourism development to further identify their regional positioning and industrial characteristics, and use tourism to incite greater regional development.

By then, its own economic strength will rise and regional development will be more balanced. The garden remains the same, but it doesn't have to be divided into front and back, and it doesn't have to point to Shanghai specifically.
