Xie Jinqiao told Cao Shangshu

Xie Jin, a bachelor of Hanlin in Ming Dynasty, was a famous scholar. It is said that when he was six or seven years old, he could recite other people's poems, and people called him a "prodigy". His home is opposite the bamboo garden of Cao Shangshu, so he wrote a couplet on his door:

Door to door;

I live in thousands of books.

The next day, Cao Shangshu was very unhappy and ordered his family Cao Bao to ask who wrote it. Upon inquiry, it turned out that it was written by Xie Jin, the son of Xie Tong, a poor water vendor. Cao Shangshu thought: Can he lend me the scenery of the bamboo garden? So he ordered his family to cut a bamboo in the garden. Xie Jin saw it and added a sentence below the couplet:

The door is as short as 1000 bamboo poles;

Thousands of books's family has a long history.

Cao Shangshu was even more angry when he read the couplets, and ordered his family to cut down all the bamboos in the garden. After Xie Jin saw it, he added a sentence below the couplet:

The door is short of a thousand bamboo poles;

My home is in thousands of books.

Cao Shangshu was very surprised and ordered his family Cao Bao to call Xie Jin to your home. When Xie Jin came to Tsao Fu, the gate was still closed. Xie Jin shouted at that time: "The main entrance is not open, which is not the reason to welcome guests."

Cao Shangshu said in the door, "I can write some couplets. If you are right, I will open the middle door to meet you. " So, read the first part:

Puppies are ignorant and the road is narrow;

Xie Jin right way:

Dapeng spreads his wings and hates the sky.

Cao Shangshu read another couplet:

Idle people are not allowed to enter the sages;

Xie Jin listened to the rational way:

No thieves, no monks.

Seeing Xie Jin's answer, Cao Shangshu even called him a "wizard" and immediately opened the middle door to meet him. Xie Jin was short and green, and began to jump. Cao Shangshu sarcastically asked him again:

Toad out of water wears a green coat;

Xie Jin saw Cao Shangshu dressed in red and doddering, and replied without hesitation:

The soup crab is wearing a red robe.

Cao Shangshu felt very embarrassed. After Xie Jin entered the government, he asked, "Student Xie, what do your parents do?" Xie Jin remembered his father getting up in the dark and selling water along the street. In the morning and evening, the bucket reflects the brilliance of the sun and the moon. Again remind of mother spinning and weaving at home, hands dexterous operation, then replied:

Strict father shoulders the sun and the moon;

Mother's hand turned to Gan Kun.

Hearing this, Cao Shangshu had to marvel at Xie Jin's wizards.
