Ten years ago, Panjiayuan was a little-known place in Beijing. In recent years, with the vigorous development of Panjiayuan antique market, it has become a good place for collectors to "Taobao" and the name of Panjiayuan has become a household name.
Panjiayuan is located in the southwest of Chaoyang, near Jinsong Community. Before liberation, it was just a small village outside Beijing, which was then called Panjiayao.
In the early years, there were many brick kilns east of the moat, and Panjiayao was one of them. Because the kiln owner's surname is Pan, it is named after the kiln owner. It is said that the owner of this kiln is a native of Jining, Shandong Province, who is over 50 years old and was originally born as a glazed tile burner. When he first came here, he wanted to open a kiln for burning glazed tiles, but he stopped burning it after several times. Because the soil here was loose and it was not suitable for burning glazed tiles, he burned small square bricks instead. At that time, there were seven or eight brick kilns in this area, and the competition between them was fierce. The owner of Panyao is new here and has switched to burning bricks, so business has been bad. But he didn't want to give up, because he saw that it was close to Beijing and had a good geographical position. So he walked privately in the kiln for a few days and came back with an idea. One is to improve the quality of bricks, and the other is to work hard on management.
First of all, he strictly controls the firing process of each brick and never cuts corners, so the burned bricks have good color, high smoothness, strong hardness and are not easy to break. At the same time, he is better than others in sales. At that time, bricks were sold on the basis of "Ding", with 200 pieces of "Xiaoding" bricks and 800 pieces of "Xiaoding" bricks. But when he was stacking bricks, a "Xiaoding" brick was 220 yuan and a "Xiaoding" brick was 850 yuan-the price was similar to other kilns, but the quantity was secret. At the same time, three carriages were rented, and all buyers within ten miles delivered bricks to their homes for free. Some buyers bought bricks from him several times and found that his bricks were not only of good quality, but also more in quantity than other kilns, and they could be delivered free of charge, so they often came to him to buy them. In less than a year, Panjiayao prospered and became famous quickly, and even people from one or two hundred miles away came to him to buy bricks. So Panjiayao became bigger and bigger. It is said that there are two or three hundred people working here at most, and cars come in and out, which is very lively. However, due to poor management, several other kilns were closed one after another. In the future, a village will be formed near Panjiayao, and the place name Panjiayao will be obtained according to the name of the kiln.
By the end of the Republic of China, the soil in this area had been almost used, leaving only many large puddles and depressions. It was very difficult to borrow soil to burn bricks, so Panjiayao was temporarily closed and soon moved to Fangshan.
After the 1960s, the puddles and depressions here were gradually filled, and residential areas began to be built. A few years later, a large residential area appeared, named "Panjiayao". But it didn't take long for people to feel indecent, because old Beijingers generally called brothels "kilns", so they changed them to "Panjiayuan". The word "garden" means "home" and is called the newly-built road near Panjiayuan Road. Later, when the Third Ring Road was built, an overpass was built on the east side of Panjiayuan, hence the name "Panjiayuan Bridge".
After 1992, a second-hand goods market has gradually formed here. In just a few years, it has developed into the largest distribution center for antique second-hand goods in China, attracting a large number of Taobao people and tourists.
Nowadays, "Panjiayuan" is not only the name of a street or a region, but also almost synonymous with the antique market. It seems that everyone says Panjiayuan is a well-known antique trading market in China and even in the world, but I didn't go for antiques. That old face full of dust and vicissitudes of life can't arouse my slightest interest. The potential stubbornness in my personality makes me unwilling to stick to the rules, even in the antique market. I only love my own propaganda.
Panjiayuan, let me gently lift your veil and give you a different dress.
Strolling in the crowded corridor, with a brick-red cornice roof overhead, the long history of thousands of years around slowly unfolds, and the time in the trance is staggered and mottled, as if I were in a different world, while I am content with aimless idleness and wandering in a place where I am not in a hurry to buy. Some people always think that as long as they go to the place where goods are sold, the purpose must be to buy things, but I appreciate the comfort of wandering and stopping.
Perhaps a sparkling nautilus fossil is a good choice, or an ink painting with a sea breeze? Or a copper beast with its teeth bared? Or a five-color shadow play? What about Yu Pei? Where is the tree carving? Everything touches people's hearts. I really like it, but I haven't asked the price for a long time. I am looking forward to my heart.
A row of glazed plates fell right in my eye. This is a corner near the outside of the shed area. In the wave of white porcelain, it stands quietly in a small and colorful way. Many of them are just stacked together, with extremely bright colors and beautiful patterns. I don't know what it was used for. Is it a sacrificial vessel for lighting incense on the table? In my opinion, it is like a dish with seasoning in sushi cuisine. What a coincidence, there is just a soap box missing from the washstand at home. This is really an excellent idea. A white porcelain basin with sparkling glass partitions, light brown maple leaves smiling demurely at the bottom of the bowl against the light blue wall, what kind of elegant demeanor will it be? Excited to think about it!
Perhaps the colored glaze soap box triggered the switch, and what I saw in my eyes could not help but be unpredictable in the bathroom. So I quickly caught a pair of bronze Kirin, palm-sized, head held high, tail cocked, flying on all fours, with a hint of domineering. The cocked tail ... just right! Lying on lavender tiles, with HelloKitty or Winnie the Pooh towels hanging, elegantly exudes postmodern arrogance, which is simply great! 260? It's not worth much, but I can't reduce the price at all. The stall owner is very stubborn and can compete with me. After argument, he won by 100 yuan, but he was the last two. Fortunately, there are the same ones in the street stall next to him, and he bought four more.
Then it seems that this trip to Panjiayuan is destined to become attached to small things, and a carved copper cabinet corner was found near the shadow play. This shop sells exquisite small bronzes, locks with fish and drawers with rich peonies every year ... The ancients poured all kinds of beautiful meanings into trivial things around them, and their creativity was admirable, which made us modern people take advantage of it. I took a fancy to the corner of the bat-style cabinet. I didn't know what it was at first. Only after asking the shopkeeper did I know that it was embedded in the corner of the cabinet, which played a decorative role on the one hand and prevented wear on the other. Good things, good things, posted on a hardcover diary or English version of The Thorn Birds, posted on the four corners. The little bat with the title of book center is definitely a unique gift. I wonder how many people will admire my best friend's birthday! After thinking about it, I decided to buy another pair of flying butterflies for myself. In the busy city life, I reward myself with some small gifts from time to time, which makes me find the calm mind that I almost forgot.
I spent all my money and gained a lot. I'm going home. Panjiayuan, which seems to be synonymous with fashion and heat preservation, can also play a different game, just as Rodin said, "The world is not short of beauty, but the eyes that find beauty." May God grant me a pair of discerning eyes and discover every agility in the world.
