Zen wood is called ebony in Sichuan, ancient sunken wood in Zhejiang, sunken wood in Cihai, carbonized wood in chemistry and oriental Shenmu in western archaeology. That was from 2000 to tens of thousands of years ago, the celestial bodies in Hainan naturally mutated, and all the plants and creatures on the ground were buried in low-lying places such as ancient river beds by volcanoes, earthquakes, floods and mudslides. Some trees buried in the soil are formed by carbonization for thousands or even tens of thousands of years under the conditions of hypoxia and high pressure and under the action of microorganisms such as bacteria, so they are also called "carbonized wood".
Zen wood has been regarded as precious wood and rare thing since ancient times, and it is a symbol of dignity and status. There is a folk saying in our country that "even if there is a box of jewels, it is not as good as Zen wood" and "two thousand gold is sent to the underworld for Zen wood to worship the spirit of heaven". In ancient times, dignitaries and literati regarded Zen wood furniture and works of art carved with Zen wood as heirlooms, treasures of towns and houses, and treasures to ward off evil spirits. Throughout the ages, especially in the Ming and Qing Dynasties, Zen wood became the first choice for emperors to build palaces. In the Qing dynasty, the emperor even listed it as a special material for the royal family, and the people could not use it privately, which made Zen wood even rarer. Many artists carved it into figures, animals and other images, becoming precious works of art.
