The jewel of the star of the century
Sapphire, also known as corundum, is a hexagonal crystal with hardness of 9, specific gravity of 3.97 to 4.08, refractive index of 1.76 to 1.77, transparent, translucent or opaque. It is a crystal of titanium oxide, which is blue because it contains iron ions and titanium ions. According to its color depth and richness, it can be divided into many kinds, among which magenta is the best. The largest sapphire stone is produced in Sri Lanka, weighing 19 kg. Because natural sapphire will be squeezed in the molding process, there will be cracks and impurities in it. Only by cutting it into smaller particles and processing it to the extent that there are no obvious cracks and defects can it reach the maximum value. Sapphire production in the world is huge, but there are not many sapphires with good color, good texture and large particle size. Natural sapphire products like this weighing 42.67 carats are destined to be extraordinary from the moment it appears. When the Burmese miners who mined sapphire pulled it out of the mud, the whole mine was boiling. No one dared to think about how much the sapphire was worth, because they had never seen such a big rough stone and there were almost no flaws. The mine manager rewarded Myanmar miners with 5 million kyats (equivalent to about 28,000 yuan) on the spot.

At that time, three famous gem processing masters processed it. When they held this sapphire weighing 1 15 carats and shaped like a walnut in their hands, they all thought it was a challenge. They have personally processed countless gems, but they have never seen such a top stone. All the processing work is in full swing, constantly observing, researching, cutting and polishing. When this sapphire is processed to 70 carats, there are still two tiny cracks. After careful calculation and research by three masters, it is proposed that when processed to 40 carats, a gem with crack-free, first-class water, first-class color and priceless value can be achieved. So it was processed into the present shape, weighing 42.67 carats, leaving a little room for more precise processing, and finally ensuring that 40 carats will reach a more perfect position.

This sapphire is now owned by Hesheng Myanmar Thailand Jewelry Company, and the jewelry appraisal institute suggested naming it "Star of the Century". According to the person in charge of the company, this sapphire has reached the top level in the world among pure blue, transparent and flawless faceted sapphires. Even the Queen of England wears such a huge and perfect faceted sapphire. Whether this sapphire is the best in the world remains to be further verified.
