From writers and literary criticism
When commenting on Williams' works, the famous literary critic MorrisDickstein said that the themes of Butcher's Cross, stoner and Augustus are different, because they all share the same intimate narrative starting point, namely, the innocence of young people, fierce male struggle, subtle tension between men and women and the relationship between father and daughter, which makes people feel sad and even futile. Dixstein commented that stoner is "a novel that transcends the definition of' greatness'-a truly perfect novel".
Julian barnes, a British writer and Booker Prize winner, wrote in his book review for the British newspaper The Guardian: "The Butcher's Cross is an excellent western literary novel, just like The Addict is an excellent academic novel-when I comment on' excellent', I mean that they have exceeded their own evaluation standards."
Ian mcewan, a British writer, said in an interview with BBC in July, 20 13: "Once you start reading this book, you seem to be in a pair of gentle hands, and its language is majestic and powerful. This language makes the story itself calm, not dull-although a little sad, it is actually a very wonderful life, and john williams refined it into a very, very beautiful novel in his own language. For readers, reading it is an extraordinary discovery journey. "
