Zhu Yuanzhang is a suspicious person. He killed the heroes who fought with him for fear that they would rebel. Although the Mongols had retreated to Mobei, Zhu Yuanzhang worried about their revival, pursued them and launched eight northern expeditions before and after. Zhu Yuanzhang was also very suspicious of the former leader of the peasant uprising. The son of Han, the early leader of the peasant uprising in the late Yuan Dynasty, finally threw himself into the river, which is said to have a lot to do with Zhu Yuanzhang. After Chen Youliang's son David Li Chen surrendered to Zhu Yuanzhang, Zhu Yuanzhang was also very uneasy about him and sent him to distant North Korea for strict supervision.
But, strangely, Zhu Yuanzhang gave preferential treatment to Fang Guozhen, the leader of the peasant uprising. He not only named Fang Guozhen Zuo Cheng, but also let him enjoy being an official. Moreover, after Fang Guozhen died in Hongwu for seven years, Zhu Yuanzhang personally offered sacrifices to him, and also asked Song Lian, a great writer, to write an inscription for him, which was engraved on Fang Guozhen's tombstone.
In fact, Zhu Yuanzhang should not be so kind to another Guo Zhen. According to Zhu Yuanzhang's character, he should be afraid of Fang Guozhen. Why do you say that?
First, Fang Guozhen is the "first meaning". In other words, Fang Guozhen was the first peasant uprising leader in the late Yuan Dynasty. As we all know, "first" always has a special meaning. Because Fang Guozhen is the first, its call is of great significance. Zhu Yuanzhang left an iconic figure. Isn't he worried?
Second, Fang Guozhen has a strong fighting capacity. After Fang Guozhen rebelled and surrendered to the Yuan Dynasty, he led the army to fight against Zhang Shicheng, winning seven out of seven, and finally Zhang Shicheng surrendered to the Yuan Dynasty. It can also be seen that Fang Guozhen has a strong fighting capacity. Zhu Yuanzhang left a man with strong fighting capacity. Isn't he worried?
Third, Fang Guozhen is capricious. After the uprising, Fang Guozhen surrendered to the Yuan Dynasty many times and finally rebelled again. At that time, due to the coastal generation in the south of the Yangtze River, the Yuan Dynasty was beyond its reach. Therefore, the national treasure of the other side can only be based on zhaofu, and the national treasure of the other side has been promoted to the level many times. But Fang Guozhen was not satisfied and still wanted to resist. It can be seen from these things that Fang Guozhen is indeed a capricious person. Isn't it dangerous to keep such a person?
Fourth, Fang Guozhen is duplicitous. When Zhu Yuanzhang became powerful, Fang Guozhen surrendered to Zhu Yuanzhang and conspired with the Yuan Dynasty. At the same time, he played tricks on Zhu Yuanzhang many times in order to be in an invincible position. Zhu Yuanzhang tried to seal his post. He pretended to be ill and incompetent, but actually refused. At the same time, he took the initiative to give his son to Zhu Yuanzhang as a hostage, in fact, in order to have an internal spy on Zhu Yuanzhang's military situation. Zhu Yuanzhang knew about this for a long time, and wrote to accuse him many times, but he still went his own way until Zhu Yuanzhang sent troops to defeat him. A duplicitous person, Zhu Yuanzhang was not afraid of being cheated, and left him a chance to rebel?
But why did Zhu Yuanzhang give preferential treatment to each other's national treasures and let Fang Guozhen die a fair death? In my opinion, there are mainly the following reasons.
First of all, Fang Guozhen has no big ambitions.
"Ming History" records that some people are good at vertical and horizontal skills, saying that Guo Zhen looked at Jiangdong with his teacher and was slightly green, Xu and Liao in the north. Guo Zhen said: "I didn't have this ambition at first." Thank you.
This passage said that when Fang Guozhen led the peasant uprising, a counselor named Zhang Zishan advised Fang Guozhen to fight in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River and even win the Central Plains. But Fang Guozhen said he didn't have that big ambition, and he didn't want to do such a thing. Therefore, Fang Guozhen is not a brave man, and he has no ambition to win the world. When you are fully armed, you are not so ambitious. Surrender to Zhu Yuanzhang, when he has no military power, where is the ambition to rebel?
Second, Fang Guozhen's character is not respected.
Fang Guozhen surrendered to the Yuan Dynasty many times and rebelled many times. Plus his duplicity to Zhu Yuanzhang. Although its purpose is self-reliance, it also makes him have a bad impression in front of the world. As Qiu Nan, his counselor, said, "Only wisdom can decide things, only faith can protect the family, but only direct use of troops." Fang Guozhen did things dishonestly, so he didn't get everyone's respect. If Fang Guozhen wants to rebel in the future, his followers will definitely consider it. If Fang Guozhen suddenly surrenders again, won't he betray everyone?
Third, it is impossible for Fang Guozhen to win the support of everyone.
In the final stage of the war, Fang Guozhen has actually shown a tendency of estrangement from others. At that time, he was unwilling to surrender to Zhu Yuanzhang, built warships day and night, and prepared to put gold and silver jewelry on board and flee to the sea. At that time, many people had quietly abandoned him and were unwilling to follow him as a pirate. Later, Zhu Yuanzhang sent troops to attack him. His fighting capacity was very strong, but he was so vulnerable. Because many people surrendered. And when he played Zhang Shicheng, he won seven out of seven, because of the background of the imperial court. It's hard to fight when he doesn't have this background.
Fang Guozhen didn't have great ambitions, and few people supported him. Therefore, Zhu Yuanzhang was at ease with him, so he didn't have to watch out for him or hit him.
