In order to spread the national prestige, Zheng He made seven missions to western countries before and after, which expanded China's contact with the world. Looking closely, we can find that colored gems (mainly rubies and emeralds) is produced in India, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Viet Nam and Cambodia. So it is very likely that Zheng He bought many gems for the Ming government when he went to these countries. According to the investigation of archaeologists, there are 18 kinds of precious stones embedded in the funerary objects of King Liang Zhuang, about 700 pieces, mainly including ruby, sapphire, emerald, golden emerald cat's eye, Dongling stone, pearl, crystal and turquoise. The quality of all kinds of gems is uneven, and there are many high-quality treasures.
Among them, ruby 173, sapphire 148 and emerald 50. Almost all gems are mainly cambered, and the processing and drilling technology of gems with special optical effects has reached a quite high level.
Judging from the quality and inclusion characteristics of gems, four of them are not made in China, but may be made in Southeast Asia, turquoise may come from Hubei, and pearls should also be made in China.
It is estimated that Zheng He never imagined that the gems he brought back to China hundreds of years later have become extremely precious treasures. The most special thing is that ordinary people can see the most precious gems with their own eyes, not just royal tributes like the Ming Dynasty ~
