The play tells the story of 1938, when the Japanese invaders occupied North China and attempted to cross the Yellow River to reach Tongguan, Shaanxi. In order to defend the northwest and Xi 'an, 30,000 Guanzhong soldiers of Shaanxi Army crossed the Yellow River eastward, stopped the enemy of Zhongtiao Mountain in Shanxi with their flesh and blood, and wrote a patriotic hero's ode.
