An official of Pakistan's Ministry of Railways said that the train was bound for Karachi from Lahore in Punjab province. When the accident happened, the tanker broke down and stayed at a railway intersection, which eventually caused the train to collide with it and caused a fire. The fire destroyed the train engine and three sleeping cars.
The local police said that the tanker driver had been arrested and the cause of the accident was under further investigation. The injured passengers were also taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
