How to dig bonsai stumps in the wild
With the improvement of living standards and spiritual civilization, more and more people like to buy or make some works of art that can cultivate their temperament and put them at home, so that they can enjoy their spare time. The most popular thing is to keep some flowers, trees and bonsai at home. Making one's own bonsai is a process that can best reflect one's practical ability and artistic level.

Bonsai is different from potted plants, which only grow one plant in a flowerpot. Just water it at ordinary times and let it survive and grow. Bonsai generally needs to be a perennial tree, and the value of bonsai is that the older it is, the more valuable and artistic it is. Bonsai needs a unique shape, and it needs to constantly constrain the branches of trees to grow in the shape and direction required by their own design goals. It takes many years and a lot of labor to cultivate an old pile by yourself. Therefore, digging bonsai stumps in the wild is favored by many bonsai lovers. However, improper excavation may lead to the failure of domestic production, or destroy some shapes that were not found at that time during excavation. Then let's talk about how to dig and cultivate stumps in the wild.

Mining season

Many trees can be transplanted from time to time in the four seasons. First of all, we should understand the growth characteristics of stumps we found. Most stumps are suitable for digging during the dormant period of plants, and the most suitable time is early spring and late autumn. Compared with other seasons, the wild stumps collected in these two seasons are easier to survive. The best collection time is around the Spring Festival. Some rare trees that can't be transplanted can't be dug up at one time, and it will take two or three years to dig.

Preparation before excavation

In order to dig a stump with good shape and convenient transportation, a good set of tools is needed. Without good tools, it is difficult to dig a good stump. Tools include shovels (digging holes and cutting off tree whiskers), shovels (shoveling soil), tree shears and saws (removing redundant branches) and water.

Planning before excavation

According to the original shape of the tree, from all angles, according to the type of the tree to decide whether to stay or not. Removing the extra branches is convenient for us to transport,

Excavation process

Dig the hole as big as possible at first, and don't cut off the heel directly, because some big roots may look better as reed root bonsai, especially the horizontal roots, and the downward roots generally don't need to stay for too long. In the process of excavation, the deep foundation pit on one side must be restrained. There is a main root in the excavation process, which needs to be cut off at an appropriate position. You can't drag when cutting roots, and the cross section should be small and smooth. When digging, it is more important to keep some soil at the root, and then wet the root with water to make the soil contact the root, thus improving the survival rate of the pot. Finally, after the stump is completely dug out, wrap the root tightly with a bag.

Stump cultivation

Stump excavated from the wild must be cultivated for a period of time. Either it is difficult to survive or it is difficult to form. The dug stump can be cultivated directly in the pot, or it can be cultivated in the pot first, and then transplanted into the bonsai pot for finished product cultivation the next year or when the shape reaches its own goal.

It is best to choose loose, fertile and well-drained soil to cultivate stumps and put them in sunny places. When planting, it should be buried deep. If the trunk is tall, it can be wrapped with moss or cotton cloth, watered once after planting, covered with heat preservation and moisturizing materials to maintain humidity. In summer, you should build a shade shed and spray water frequently. In winter, it is necessary to build a straw curtain to prevent cold and freezing.

To ensure water supply, we should not be short of water in the prosperous period, and it is best to spray water on the leaves frequently when the weather is dry. The roots of newly planted stumps are tender, so don't fertilize them too thick. Fertilizer should be applied thinly and frequently, and the fertilizer should be decomposed.

Pruning should be done well during cultivation, unnecessary branches should be cut off during modeling, and diseased branches and dead branches should be cut off. It is also necessary to remove the redundant buds, so as not to produce useless branches and waste nutrients in the trunk. We must also do a good job in the prevention and control of pests and diseases.

After the stump survives, you can do modeling work. There are many convenient methods and skills for modeling, so you can learn more and practice more.
