Fukushima nuclear accident, 20 1 1 March11day, an earthquake measuring 9.0 on the Richter scale occurred in the northeast Pacific region of Japan, which subsequently triggered a tsunami, seriously affecting the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant and the Fukushima II nuclear power plant. Fukushima nuclear power plant is located at 37 degrees 25 minutes 14 seconds north latitude and 2 minutes/41degree east longitude, in Fukushima industrial zone, Japan. It was the largest nuclear power plant in service in the world at that time, consisting of Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant and Fukushima II nuclear power plant, with a total of 10 units (6 in one station and 4 in two stations), all of which were boiling water reactors.
On 20th11April12nd, Japan Atomic Energy Safety and Security Agency designated the Fukushima nuclear accident as the highest level 7 (catastrophic accident), which is the same as the Chernobyl nuclear accident. On 20021April 13, the Japanese government officially decided to discharge millions of tons of nuclear polluted water from the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant into the sea. On the morning of July 22, 2022, local time, the Japan Atomic Energy Regulatory Commission officially approved the plan of Tokyo Electric Power Company to discharge nuclear polluted water into the sea after the accident at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant.
Subsequent effects of the Fukushima nuclear power plant leakage in Japan
After the nuclear accident in Fukushima Prefecture, about 380,000 children in the prefecture were examined for thyroid gland. As of February, 20 18, 159 people have been diagnosed with cancer, and 34 people are suspected of cancer. Among the 84 patients who were diagnosed with thyroid cancer and underwent surgery in Fukushima, 8 out of about 10 patients relapsed and underwent surgery again.
According to a report by Asahi TV on the 27th, six people in Japan sued TEPCO, demanding compensation for the loss of thyroid cancer caused by radiation from radioactive materials in Fukushima nuclear accident. A victim cried and said that his body would never return to normal because of the accident.
