Xiabu is a traditional handicraft of Han nationality with a long history. This is linen woven from ramie. Because it is often used in summer clothes, it is breathable and sweat-absorbent, cool and pleasant, so it is also called summer cloth.
Ramie has a long history of planting and processing in China, and its annual output accounts for more than 90% of the world's annual output. It is internationally known as "China Grass". Because ramie fiber contains trace elements such as pyrimidine and Rinrin, it has a strong inhibitory effect on bacteria, so it is also recognized as the "king of natural fibers".
Rongchang Ramie has a long history of production. As early as the Han Dynasty, there was a record of "Shu cloth", and its top grade became a tribute in the Tang Dynasty. Summer cloth is woven with ramie thread through many manual processes.
It is reported that Huguang immigrated to Sichuan in the late Ming and early Qing dynasties, which brought Huguang flax production experience and exchanged production technology with Rongchang. The production of summer cloth mainly includes beating hemp, pulling hemp balls, pulling taro, drawing wires, threading, brushing, weaving, rinsing, setting, printing and dyeing.
