Oral and maxillofacial surgery, founded in 1986, is the only discipline in Hunan province that integrates medical treatment, teaching and scientific research, and has the right to award master's degrees and doctoral supervisors. Shen, Deng Fangcheng, successively served as the director of the teaching and research section, and Associate Professor Chen Xinqun is currently the deputy director of the teaching and research section. Through the joint efforts of several generations, this subject has made great progress. In the early 1990s, this major carried out research on the diagnosis and treatment of craniomaxillofacial deformities, and it was one of the earliest units in China to carry out research in this field. After that, the monograph "Surgery of Oral and Maxillofacial Malformation Defect" was published for the first time in China, which is the first monograph in the professional field in China. Our department has been supported by National Natural Science Foundation, Hunan Natural Science Foundation, Hunan Science and Technology Department, Provincial Health Department Research Fund and China Merchants Bank Fund, and won many awards, such as China Medical Science and Technology Progress Award, Hunan Science and Technology Achievement Award, Hunan Health Department Science and Technology Committee Excellent Paper Award and so on. At present, oral and maxillofacial surgery has formed a well-structured academic echelon, with 4 professors, 7 associate professors and 6 lecturers, 80% of whom have master's degrees or above. Scientific research has been carried out in the stable direction of diagnosis and treatment of oral and maxillofacial deformities, research on canceration mechanism of oral and maxillofacial tumors, sequential treatment of cleft lip and palate, reconstruction of temporomandibular joint, clinical applied anatomy of skull base surgery, and implant denture. It has formed a well-known academic advantage in China, which is characterized by the diagnosis and treatment of craniofacial malformation, the experimental study of posterior pharyngeal flap, the prevention and treatment of oral carcinogenesis with garlic, the molecular mechanism of oral verrucous cancer, the clinical and basic research of malignant hyperthermia, and skull base surgery. Our department undertakes stomatology (seven-year and five-year programs), clinical medicine (seven-year and five-year programs) and other majors and levels of oral and maxillofacial surgery, oral and maxillofacial medical imaging diagnosis, stomatology, oral biology, oral and maxillofacial deformity and defect surgery, medical aesthetics and oral oncology. At present, doctors and master students majoring in oral and maxillofacial plastic surgery are recruited nationwide; Master of Oral and Maxillofacial Oncology and Master of Oral and Maxillofacial Applied Anatomy.
