Pruning steps of Buxus macrophylla ball
1. Determine the pruning amount: firstly, observe the big-leaf Buxus buxus ball to be pruned, and observe the growth of backbone branches, large and medium branches from different angles. First, determine the pruning degree and pruning amount of large and medium branches, and estimate the pruning amount. When the predicted pruning amount is too large, seasonal pruning method should be adopted.
2. Judging the growth of boxes: carefully observe the growth potential and quantity of annual branches around boxes, the position and distribution uniformity of flower buds, and eliminate the "exuberance and strength" of boxes, so as to determine the corresponding pruning principles.
3. Operation in sequence: For boxwood balls of any shape, the big branches and middle branches are treated first, and then the twigs are pruned; Thinning branches first, then cutting them short; Trim the inner chamber first, and then trim the periphery; Trim the upper part first, then the lower part. The specific method is:
(1) Cut a leveling belt according to the diameter. Be careful not to cut it too deep at first, and you can trim it again if necessary.
(2) Turn the pruning shears upside down and use the reverse side of the pruning shears to trim the curves on the plants.
③ Trim the top of the plant and determine the upper curve of the sphere.
(4) Trim the scissors downward, and turn them over again to make their front face close to the plants.
⑤ Cut off the redundant branches and leaves at the top and middle of the plant.
⑥ Trim the branches and leaves of the lower part of the plant to the surface along the shape of the upper part of the plant. Sweep off the pruned branches and leaves by hand.
⑦ Look back and forth at the trimmed ball around the boxwood ball, and take a step back to see if the ball is symmetrical. If there is a gap on the spherical surface during pruning, especially on the upper part, it can be filled after new branches and leaves grow out.
Prune once or twice the following summer, in midsummer or late summer.
4. Revision and supplement: After all pruning, observe the surroundings of boxwood, and make necessary supplements and corrections for the missing and unbalanced parts.
5. Clean up the site: remove the pruned branches and dead leaves in time. Several abandoned branches and leaves were shipped out in time for treatment. Sick plants should be pruned last. If the diseased branches have been pruned, all tools should be disinfected to avoid infection.
Pest control of Buxus macrophylla
Buxus macrophylla is very resistant, even in the extensive management area, there are few pests, such as aphids and scale insects.
Among them, Ceratophyllum japonicum is difficult to control, and it can be scraped off manually after insect pests are found. It is very effective to spray pesticides on leaves and trunks after nymph hatching and before shell formation. Commonly used pesticides are quick killing or vector killing.
Common diseases include powdery mildew, sooty blotch, leaf spot, stem rot and anthracnose.
Annual shoots are malnourished, and the climate is humid, which is prone to powdery mildew. In areas with extensive management, areas with little disease prevention and pruning and disinfection are prone to leaf spot, anthracnose and stem rot. Sooty blotch often occurs when there is harm from sucking pests. For the above diseases, broad-spectrum fungicides such as chlorothalonil, carbendazim and thiophanate-methyl can be used, and the diseases can be controlled by spraying for two or three times. The application interval is 7 days to 10 days. If the condition is serious, the interval can be shortened appropriately and sprayed once every four or five days. In addition, the new branches of Euonymus japonicus grow very fast, so we should pay attention to pruning once a year to keep the tree shape. Then timely control of pests and diseases can improve its survival rate.
