What is the real difference between a switch and a hub?
Switches are divided into high-end, mid-end and low-end types. The high-end can realize the function of label transmission above three layers, and the switch ports have three link types: access, trunk and hybrid. The access port can only belong to 1 VLAN, which is generally used to connect the computer port; Trunk port can allow multiple VLANs to pass through, and can receive and send messages from multiple VLANs, which is generally used for ports connected between switches; The hybrid port can allow multiple VLANs to pass through, receive and send messages from multiple VLANs, and can be used for connecting between switches or connecting users' computers.

Hub is called "hub" in English. "Hub" means "center". The main function of the hub is to regenerate, shape and amplify the received signal, so as to expand the transmission distance of the network, and at the same time concentrate all nodes on the node centered on it.

What is the real difference? Switch ports can send and receive messages and judge VLAN information. The tag is sent directly, and untag strips VLAN information and sends it again. More importantly, the switch can be used in Jiaotong University network.

Hub's network is also a LAN shared by * * * media, where "* * * sharing" is actually a hub. So when the uplink channel and downlink channel send data at the same time, there will still be signal collision (handover can be divided into standard processing). Hub has no VLAN processing function of switch, and can only exist in local area network, which can not adapt to the transmission application of large network.
