Southern Medical University, formerly known as the First Military Medical University of Chinese People's Liberation Army, was founded in 195 1, 1979 and was designated as a national key university. In 2004, it was approved as one of the eight universities in China to pilot eight-year medical education. In August, 2004, according to the orders of the State Council and the Central Military Commission, it was transferred to Guangdong Province as a whole and renamed Southern Medical University. At present, there are two campuses, Headquarters and Shunde Campus, covering an area of 2194,400 square meters and a building area of1648,800 square meters. In recent years, our school has been ranked in the top 100 of China University. In 2007, our school passed the evaluation of undergraduate teaching level by the Ministry of Education with the excellent results of 19, and it is also one of the two excellent universities in Guangdong Province. At present, it enrolls students for 3 1 provinces, autonomous regions, municipalities directly under the central government and Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan.

Scale of running a school. There are 17 colleges, including the first clinical medical college, the second clinical medical college, the basic medical college, the Chinese medicine college, the nursing college, the biotechnology college, the health and tropical medical college, the biomedical engineering college, the humanities and management college, the foreign language college, the Marxist college, the graduate school, the continuing education college, the international education college and the medical vocational and technical college. A medical teaching alliance has been formed, which consists of 6 directly affiliated hospitals (Nanfang Hospital, zhujiang hospital, Huarui Hospital, Jiangdu Hospital, Hospital of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine and Beijiao Hospital), 45 non-directly affiliated hospitals and 65 teaching hospitals represented by Guangdong Provincial People's Hospital.
