Will microtia affect hearing?

If a child is born with microtia, parents are often worried about the impact of poor ear shape on the child's social and psychological development. They are also worried about the impact of microtia on hearing. Congenital microtia (also called first and second branchial arch syndrome) is a disease with widely varying severity within the same disease. The mildest patients only have a small accessory ear in front of the ear, while the most severe patients have no ears at all (anotia). Most patients are somewhere in between. Regardless of the severity of the deformity, if the external auditory canal is well developed, the hearing of the affected ear will be normal in most cases. However, if the external auditory canal is atretic and there is no ear hole, hearing will undoubtedly be affected. But even if the ear canal is atretic, most children's ears will still not be completely hearingless. This is determined by the structure and functional division of the ear. I am Wu Jianming, professor of ear deformity correction, and I hope to help you.
