Pruning chrysanthemums can be divided into: 1. Picking: Picking is to remove the top of the main branch or side branch. The function of enucleation is to promote the growth of lateral branches, achieve the expected number of flowers, control the height of plants and delay the flowering period appropriately. Generally, the chrysanthemum can be denucleated three times. The first time is half a month after planting, about the middle and late June, the seedling is as high as 15 ~ 20 cm, with 6 ~ 7 leaves, leaving 3 ~ 4 leaves at the base and picking off the apex; The second time, 3 ~ 4 weeks after the first coring, 2 ~ 3 leaves were taken from the lower part of the new branch, and the top was removed at the same time; In 3 ~ 4 weeks (mid-August), the last coring will be carried out. The method is as above. This coring, commonly known as "fixing the head", must strictly control the time, neither too early nor too late. If the lateral branches grow too long too early, the flowering will be delayed too late. Potted Xiao Ju is usually cored five times, that is, from half a month after planting, every 20 days or so 1 time, until late August to early September. Chrysanthemum usually blooms 80 ~ 85 days after the head is fixed; A Man Called Autumn Flower period is 70 ~ 75 days.
2. Retaining branches: All the side branches issued after fixing the head must be carefully selected, which is called "retaining branches". How many branches are left depends on the need. When the branches grow to 10 ~ 15 cm, you can choose well-developed and well-proportioned branches and cut off unnecessary branches flush with the base.
3. Peeling buds: After stopping pinching, axillary buds of new branches keep sprouting and must be erased at any time, so as to concentrate nutrients to bud and blossom.
4. Bud removal: Chrysanthemum has many flower buds. Potted chrysanthemum only needs 1 main bud and 1 flower at the top of each branch, so all other buds need to be picked. Bud removal time is generally concentrated in the middle of 10, when the main bud is pea-sized. It is required that the selected flower buds are basically the same size, so that the flowers can be uniform, neat and beautiful. You can use fingers, toothpicks, thick needles and other tools to remove buds. This work has to be done many times.
