How should pomegranate trees be pruned?
1. Multi-principal natural semicircle (or round head) modeling method

Pomegranate, left to grow, often germinates from the rhizosphere. If the tillers are pulled out at any time after planting, a shrub-type multi-stem natural semi-circular crown can be formed. Generally, after planting, let it grow in the first year, leave 2-4 stems in the second year, remove the redundant new buds, and then remove the branches and roots sprouting at the base at any time (locals call it clearing the pier). Branches below the left trunk (0.5- 1 m) should be gradually removed with the increase of age and the expansion of crown, and new shoots in rhizosphere should be removed as soon as possible every year to facilitate ventilation and light transmission and concentrate nutrients to promote crown growth. At the same time, 3-5 main branches are planted on each trunk to grow around the crown, so that the crown is gradually expanded and the yield is gradually increased.

Second, multi-trunk natural heart-shaped shaping method

Multi-stem natural happiness is based on multi-stem natural semicircle (or round head shape), and the modeling method is basically the same, except that a stem in the middle of the latter grows vertically, instead of forming semicircle, it forms multi-stem natural happiness.

Three, go it alone natural happy modeling method

The pomegranate producing area in Yixian county thinks that it is better to go it alone and be happy naturally. That is, after planting, select a trunk and cut it at a height of 60-80 cm, which is called fixed stem. After the growth is completed, 3-5 strong branches are selected as long main branches, and no middle branches are left, and the rest branches can be thinned out or temporarily kept to help support the tree. The main branch spacing is 15-20 cm, and the lowest branch is about 30 cm from the ground. The main branches grow in all directions, and the growth potential of each main branch should be balanced, but attention should be paid to the opening angle. Because pomegranate trees grow vigorously and their branches are upright, they should be propped up when necessary. When pruning in winter, 1/3 of the extension branches of the main branch can be pruned as needed to promote multi-branching at the lower part. If this pruning method lasts for 2-3 years, the tree skeleton can be completed, that is, the natural and gratifying shape of going it alone. Because pomegranate branches are flexible, they can be allowed to grow after entering the fruiting period, and the liberation society is naturally open, and only the long branches and horizontal branches in the inner room can be controlled.
