Pruning method of Lagerstroemia indica
1. Pruning in spring

Pruning in spring can be divided into two types, one is combined pruning and propagation, which is also called pruning before bud; Second, the second link of winter pruning, also called post-bud pruning. Pre-bud pruning is to get ahead of the sprouting of new branches, otherwise it will destroy the physiological function of plants. The method is similar to that of winter pruning, except that the cut branches can be used for cutting or grafting propagation immediately. Pruning after bud is also called "wiping bud", because Lagerstroemia indica has very strong germination, and new branches may sprout in the place where buds are fixed or indefinite in spring. In order to ensure the beautiful tree shape and dense branches, and reduce the invasion of pests and diseases, it is necessary to wipe bud pruning. Bud smearing should be done at least three times, with a cycle of one week or ten days, until the reserved new branches are lignified.

2. Pruning in summer and autumn

Pruning in summer and autumn is a method to delay flowering. Generally, it is selected about 1 days before autumn, and its method is to cut off the flower branches of the year, leaving only 2 ~ 3 bud points at the base of the flower branches, forcing them to send new flower branches. This method should be combined with soil loosening and fertilization management, and ensure that plants can grow in a well-ventilated and sunny environment, otherwise it may backfire.

Pruning in summer and autumn is to make the flowering period of Lagerstroemia indica longer. Pruning the branches that have grown recently will leave only a few buds on the branches, which will promote Lagerstroemia indica to grow new branches again and ensure its beauty. This pruning method is called bud pruning.

3. Pruning in winter

Pruning in winter is to ensure normal flowering and form large inflorescences, so pruning in winter is very important. If planted in the ground, the branches born in the current year should be cut off at the height of the main branch, so that the strong branches will bloom in the next year; First of all, cut off all the sprouting branches, diseased branches and overlapping branches in potted plants. In order to beautify the shape, cut short the top of the full terminal buds of other branches by ` 1cm, and generally only keep about 5cm.
