Coral is a coelenterate with plant characteristics. The calcareous skeleton secreted by coral deposits an interconnected porous structure, which is mainly composed of calcium carbonate in the form of aragonite crystals. Because of its unique bone structure, it is suitable for bone growth, thus becoming an ideal bone implant material.
